August 8, 1939 - September 27, 2021
Michael G. Castelli, our beloved uncle and friend, passed away peacefully on September 27, 2021 due to complications from COVID-19. Michael was born on August 8, 1939 in Weiser, ID, and eventually moved with his family to Richland, WA where his father worked in support of the Manhattan Project. Michael graduated from Columbia High School in Richland, WA in 1957 and then from California State University, Los Angeles. After graduation Michael became an electrical engineer for the Hughes Aircraft Company/Raytheon where he proudly designed radar systems for the Abrahams A-1 tank and B-52 aircraft. Uncle Mike was a true renaissance man. Besides being a skilled engineer and successful entrepreneur, he was an adventurous explorer; he had a truly amazing gift for turning any trip, whether it be a hike, bike ride, 10k race, or road trip, into an adventure. Michael was also an accomplished scuba diver and always shared the catch of his dives with his many friends. He was most proud of his diving trip to Micronesia where he made an astounding escape from an underwater cave he was swept into. Uncle Mike lead by example on how to work hard and play hard and to never give up. He cherished his family and friends and introduced us all to the finer things in life like Yukon Jack and Beer Nuts, and to always finish up a hard day's work with a bowl of ice cream. Above all, Uncle Mike was exceptionally kind, generous and patient. He was the center of our universe and we will forever miss him and his gentle spirit. Michael was preceded in death by his parents, Domenic and Margaret Castelli and his dear sister, (and our mother) Rosita Salsbury. He leaves behind a legacy of Beer Nuts that includes his niece, Toni; his nephews Domenic and Nathan (Montti); his great-niece Alexandra (Justin); his great-nephews Joshua, Nicolas, and Tyler; his great-great nephew Sequoia; his good friends Dan Haggard, Cheryl Zackney, and many, many more. A memorial service will be held for Michael on 10/8/21, 10:30 AM at Mueller's Tri-Cities Funeral Home, 1401 S. Union St., Kennewick, WA, with graveside services immediately following in Desert Lawn Memorial Park. Michael's family would like to express their sincere appreciation to Dr. Hoekema and his excellent staff at Trios Hospital for their impeccable care and compassion while treating our beloved uncle. May he forever rest in peace.
