July 5, 1955 - October 27, 2021
It is with great sadness that our family announces the passing of Delvin (Del) C. Albertson, beloved husband, father, grandfather, son, brother and uncle, on October 27, 2021. He was born July 5, 1955, and lived his entire life in the Tri-Cities, attending Pasco primary schools through Junior High School and graduating from Kennewick High School in 1973. In 2000, Del met his wife, Peggy Hooker Albertson, and they married July 4, 2003. His joy was evident, and through all of their years together, he was often heard greeting her with a loving “Hello, gorgeous.” Together they built a fantastic life full of adventures with a blended family which produced 11 grandchildren who knew him as “Papa Del.” He was extremely proud of his children and grandchildren who will never forget special times with him. Papa Del was so loved and often had several of the grandchildren gathered around hoping to jump up and share his chair with him. Del is survived by his cherished wife, Peggy; their children Jaime (Josh) Davis, Dylan and Cash; Lacey Albertson (Mike Devine), Zoe and Rowan; Derek (Heather) Berg, Julia and Fiona; Adam (Lauren) Berg, Aubrey, Klay and Miles; Kylie (John) Grace, Landry and Duke; and Cody Rail. He is also survived by his mother Norma (Bill) Knight; brothers Vic Albertson (Tammy); John Albertson (Cathy) and Sister Carla Green (Ray) as well as numerous nieces and nephews, sister and brother by marriage, Shelley Ledbetter and Justin Gibbs, mother by marriage, Bunnie Hooker and Aunt by marriage, Pat (Ruthie) Turner and of course his wonderful Travel Buddies. He was preceded in death by his father-in-law and next-door neighbor, C.D. Hooker, in 2016. The two of them enjoyed relaxing on the patio watching the sprinklers go ‘round and solving the problems of the world. We have no doubt they are together again doing something similar but with a much better perspective! Despite his efforts to present a gruff and stubborn persona (which always made us laugh), it was overwhelmingly evident to all of us that he was, instead, a loving, giving and caring person. That evidence is manifested now by the deep sorrow and pain in our hearts that we feel at his passing. Our world is less bright for now, but we will lean on God and our wonderful memories, memories of his infectious smile, quips, joking and hours spent listening to his great playlist containing his and Peggy’s favorite songs, to heal us. If we ever had a problem to be solved, Del was our “go-to guy” for just about everything. He was a master at music trivia and loved blowing the rest of us away with his knowledge, which left us shaking our heads in awe! And it moved us all deeply that they were still sometimes seen dancing on their patio to their wedding song. Del was employed for 43 years by Ash Grove Cement Company where he retired as Plant Manager on October 31, 2017. He loved his retirement and spent as many days as he could manage at his beach home with Peggy and with friends and family. Del never failed to point out to the rest of us beachcombers that our agates were not near as big as the ones he found, and when not watching for whales, he enjoyed jumping in their RV and ‘getting away’ for a few days. Our deep grief is an indication of our even deeper love for Del, a man of great integrity and compassion who was loved beyond measure and highly revered by all who were fortunate enough to know him. The family and close friends are having a private celebration of life for Del.
