Harlan Scherer, age 72, of Pasco, Washington, peacefully passed away on August 29, 2026, after his battle with bladder cancer.

Harlan was born January 9, 1954, in Yakima, Washington. He grew up on a small dairy farm in Tieton WA and graduated from Highland High School in 1972. During his high school years, Harlan excelled in several sports and was also a member of the marching band. He went on to attend Yakima Valley College on a football scholarship.

Harlan became a journeyman lineman and began his career working construction line work before joining Benton PUD in 1979. He worked for Benton PUD for 34 years and was Superintendent of Transmission and Distribution when he retired in 2013. Harlan loved his work and the people he worked with.

Harlan and his wife, Nancy, were married in 1998. They retired together and enjoyed spending their winters in El Centro, California, traveling to Texas to visit family, and visiting many national parks. Yellowstone was one of his favorite places.

Over the years, Harlan enjoyed many hobbies and adventures. He loved baseball, water and snow skiing, scuba diving, golfing, fishing, and camping. Yet more than any hobby or accomplishment, Harlan’s greatest joy came from his family. He devoted himself to supporting his children and loved ones in their sports, activities, and everyday lives. He was always present—cheering from the sidelines, lending a helping hand, and offering his time and encouragement whenever they were needed.

Harlan will be remembered for the steady, generous way he cared for others. His love was shown not only in words, but in a lifetime of support and presence. He gave his best to his family and his work, leaving behind cherished memories and a lasting example of what it means to live with loyalty, kindness, and love.

He is survived by his wife, Nancy; his sons, Jeff Scherer (DaNeill) and Blake Scherer (Angie); his stepchildren, Jaime Bach, Kyle Moser, and Jason Moser (Tia); eight grandchildren: Kalee, Carsen, Patrick, Belle, Natalie, Emme, Harper, and Margot; and four great-grandchildren: Callon, Ava, Jace, and Jaxx.
