Wilma June Bitton was born in Cleveland, Idaho on May 9, 1926, to Dorthea Luella Jensen and Leonard Redfield Hoopes. Surrounded by her family, she passed away on Monday July 30, 2012, at the home of her son Corey. June was the youngest of 8 children, 4 sisters and 3 brothers. She graduated from Thatcher High School in 1943. On December 23rd , 1944 she married Max Kendle Bitton of Lago, Idaho at the Kingman Arizona Air Force Base. She worked at a malt shop in Kingman during the war. When Max was discharged, they moved back to Grace, Idaho and had three children Judy, Janet and Roger. In the fall of 1954, they moved to the Columbia Basin to homestead a farm after being selected in a Federal Veteran's drawing. She worked as head cook for the Eltopia School and at Edwin Markham Elementary until the birth of her son, Corey, in 1965. She also worked for Dr. James Dart Orthodontics for 20 years until she retired at the age of 72. June was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. She was the 1st Primary president of the Columbia Basin Ward and served as Relief Society President for 6 years and held numerous other callings as she served the Lord. She was preceded in death by her husband Max Bitton, her parents, infant son Stephen, infant granddaughter Jane, son-in-law Sam Vermilyea, and all of her siblings. She is survived by her children Judy Johnny Winebarger of Pasco, Janet Vermilyea of Twin Falls, Idaho, Roger Bitton of Pasco, Corey Tami Bitton of Pasco, 12 grandchildren, 20 great-grandchildren and 1 great-great-granddaughter. June was a kind, caring and loving wife, mother and grandmother. She will be deeply missed by all of her family and friends.
