William "Bill" Sleater, 63, passed away on August 11, 2011 at Kadlec after a courageous three year battle with lung cancer, COPD and pneumonia. Bill was born in Pasco, WA on June 10, 1948 to Ray and Emma Hill Sleater. He graduated from KHS in 1966 and was eager to serve his country but due to asthma he was never allowed to realize his dream. Instead he attended CBC and eventually retired as a warehouse manager. He married Sandi Lasater on December 13, 1969 and they were blessed with four children and six grandchildren. Bill loved to work with his hands, from woodworking to gardening, and everything in between. He also loved to read and learn all he could about American History. He is survived by his children, Lara Art Ortega, Traci Travis Trulson, Eric Rachel Sleater and Erin Sleater-McBride; amazing grandchildren, Jordan, Andrea, Alli, Shelby, William and Keegan. His grandchildren held a special place in his heart. They were the bright stars in his life. He is also survived by his siblings, Jerry Deloris Sleater, sister Dodie, Larry Kit Sleater, Ed Sharen Sleater and Chuck Ruth Sleater, along with numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and brothers, Jim and Dave Sleater, brother-in-law Chuck Perry and sister-in-law Rena Sleater. During Bill's illness he had some wonderful doctors and nurses, Dr. Aye Swedish Hospital, Dr. Rado TCCC, Dr. Haddadin KGH, Dr. Urness PCLI, Dr. York Kadlec, and many nurses. Our family appreciates those nurses that were with Dad in his final moments and the incredible care you showed our father. A public viewing will be on Monday, August 15th, 2011, 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., at Mueller's Tri-Cities Funeral Home at 1401 S. Union Street, Kennewick. Funeral services will be held Tuesday, August 16th, 2011, 11:00 a.m., at Bethel Church, 600 Shockley Road in Richland. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Bill's memory to the Tri-City Cancer Center.
