Obituary

April is the month for new beginnings. Our beloved brother is beginning his new life with his Lord and Savior. William passed away on April 25, 2008 in Kennewick, WA. "Let not your heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid" - John 14:27. What can we tell you about our brother that is important for you to know? Bill touched many lives with his special personality. He loves the Lord and trusts in all His ways. Bill loved singing for many years in the Celebration Choir at the Catholic Parish of the Holy Spirit in Kennewick and always had a helping hand to offer in any church project. As with his 3 brothers, he enjoyed the outdoors by hunting, fishing and hiking. Bill was born while his father was serving in World War II on March 1, 1944 in Twin Falls, Idaho. Father and son finally met when Bill was just a toddler. The Gilberts started out in southern Idaho and then settled in Lewiston, Idaho. He attended schools in Lewiston and graduated in 1962 and continued his education by working and putting himself through colleges at the University of Idaho, Boise State University and in California. In 1969 he began working alongside his father in the Operating Engineers building highways and dams throughout the northwest. He was married in 1975, and then divorced in 1983. Bill never quite got over losing the love of his life. He changed careers and for 30 years worked for the U.S. Postal Service before retiring in 2006. Bill was a lifetime member of the Tri City Court Club. His workouts at the club actually helped him later when he became sick. Both Bill and his younger brother Tom were the victims of an insidious, hereditary disease called Familial Amyloidosis. Please join the surviving family members by praying that this is the last of its destruction. William is preceded in death by his parents, Clarence and June McDonald and his brother, Tom Gilbert 2001. He is survived by two brothers, Daniel Barbara of Boise, ID and Jerry of Ridgefield, WA; sister Anita Ed Jeffs of Pasco, WA; aunt Dorothy Duane Kirk of Boise, ID; nieces and nephew Jennifer Russell of Everett, WA, Eric Lisa Gilbert of Hailey, ID and Janet Gilbert of Coeur d'Alene, ID; cousins Denielle, Dian, Andee and Erik Moser of Boise, ID. We would like to thank a very special friend, Adele Ogryzek, her husband, Hank and their daughter, Melanie, for their tender loving care of Bill during his last years. Along with the other very special caregivers, Bill had the best of care. Special appreciation for caregivers: Andrea Locati, Matthew Buckingham, Deborah Johnson, Wally Flores, Adam Sommer, Colleen Carassco, Jenn Nighbor, and Cheryl Buote and Hospice staff: Lynda Hans, Julie Schmidt, and Cathy Rhoads. Graveside services will be held on Thursday, May 1, 2008 at 1:00 p.m. at Lewis-Clark Memorial Gardens, 3521 7th Street, Lewiston, Idaho with a Memorial service to be held on May 10, 2008 at 10:30 a.m. at Parish of the Holy Spirit, 7409 W. Clearwater Avenue in Kennewick, Washington.
