Wesley Robert Door 'the best jeweler on Fourth Avenue' passed away peacefully in Kennewick on March 24, 2025 surrounded by family. Wes was seven months away from his goal of reaching his 100th birthday.

Wes was born to Howard W. Door and Burdette W. Hoadley Door on October 27, 1925, by Dr. L.G. Spaulding in their home in Kennewick.

At age 13 he convinced his parents to allow him to apprentice as a watchmaker at Behrman's Jewelry in downtown Kennewick.

After Graduating from Kennewick High in 1943 he joined the Navy, serving officially as a gunner (and unofficially as ship and base watchmaker) during WWII.

Several years after discharge from the Navy he opened Door's Jewelry in downtown Kennewick, he was an AWCI Certified Master Watchmaker, Graduate Gemologist, Certified Accutron Technician, AWCI president and recipient of the AWCI Fellow award. In 1970 he moved his business into his home.

He was an inventor and writer. His tools for jewelers were originally produced for Bulova Watch Company's tool division; which led our family to 10-month adventure in Puerto Rico. When that division closed down, he took over the manufacturing and distribution of them himself. His number one tool was his WesGem pliers.

While in the Navy he learned folk and square dancing. This became a lifelong passion of his. In the 1950's he had a weekly folk dance program on the first TV station in the Tri-Cities. He later joined the Richland International Folk Dancers, along with various square dance clubs in the area.

He was a charter member of the Tri-City Toastmaster's Club, a member of Tri-City Men's Cancer Club, BBB, Chamber of Commerce, and VFW. Along with his wife Betty, he was a volunteer with the Kennewick Police Department CHIPS program.

He was an honorary Past Master of Kennewick Masonic Lodge #153, 32° KCCH Scottish Rite Mason, and member of El Katif's Columbia Basin Shrine Club.

In 1947 he married Grace O'Banion, together they had a son Robert L Door in 1952.They divorced in 1954. He married Elizabeth (Betty) Goakey in 1956, they had three children, James, Debra and Richard.

He was a lifelong time active member of Kennewick First United Methodist Church.

When the Tri-City Americans came to town Wes and Betty became season ticket holders, thus beginning a surprise passion for hockey.

Wes was preceded in death by parents Howard and Burdette Door, sister Ellen Dorothy Door and brother Roy Door.

He is greatly missed by his wife, children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Survived by wife of 68 years Betty Door, children Robert (Kris) Door, James (Merrianne) Door, Debra (Ken) Williamson, Richard (Jill) Door, grandchildren Nathan Door, Brandon Williamson, Brittany (Chris) Becker, Jason (Ayla) Door, Holly (Brett) Bergum, Audrey Door, Angie Door, great-grandchildren Annalise, Halley, Eleena, Carter, Wally, Cyrus, Kennedy, Brady and brother-in-law Ed (Colleen) Goakey.

A memorial service will be held at Kennewick First United Methodist Church, 2 S Dayton, Kennewick at 11:00 AM Friday May 30, 2025.
