Wayne was a loving and devoted husband to his wife, Sandra, and her best friend. They married in 1975 and grew up and built a life together. He was a wonderful father to his daughter, Emily. He was an outstanding uncle and grandparent.

Wayne was a natural teacher.

He spent a life of service teaching and coaching young people. He spent 25 years teaching grades 3-12 in Cle Elum, Endicott-St. John, and Naselle School Districts and 10 years teaching writing at Walla Walla Community College. He also coached high school basketball and baseball. He coached middle school basketball, baseball, and football.

Wayne loved working out and lifted weights, ran, and cycled. He played Little League baseball as a child and his best memory was playing in Hilo, Hawaii. He went on to pitch at Central Washington University. He later played modified pitch softball for 10 years. Wayne also played basketball at Walla Walla Community College.

Wayne graduated from Walla Walla High School, Walla Walla Community College, and Central Washington University. He later returned to Central to get his teaching degree in history. He went on to get a Masters Degree in English at Eastern Washington University.

Wayne wrote poetry and short stories. He published four books. The last two with fellow authors.

Wayne and Sandra traveled to Hawaii and all over the United States and visited Europe. They had a beach house in Seaside; Oregon and it was one of their favorite places.

Wayne is survived by his wife of 50 years, Sandra, daughter, Emily, and granddaughter, Luna and his three sisters, Mary Hiatt, Jeanne (Roger) Erickson, and Barbara (Rob) Barrows. He was preceded in death by his brother, Ray and his parents, Wayne and Verla Bushnell.

Wayne battled Parkinson's Disease for the last 14 years. He never gave up or gave in to his illness. Think of your favorite Wayne memory and continue in your life to practice those creative arts that inspire and sustain you.
