Volney Edwin "Eddie" Davis, age 58, went to be with the Lord January 12, 2011, at home, surrounded by his loving family. Eddie was born December 20, 1952, at Kennewick General Hospital, to Wilma Elaine Randolph Davis and Volney Edwin Davis. Raised in Finley, and graduating from River View High School in 1971, Ed went on to work at Tessenderlo Kerley, Finley Plant, for almost 40 years this April. On September 30, 1972, Ed married Rita Chavez, his elementary, junior high and high school sweetheart. To this union came three wonderful sons, who made their dad very proud. Ed coached Kennewick American Little League for years and loved every minute he spent with his sons, their friends, and their families. Many lifelong friends emerged from baseball. After little league, Ed followed his three sons on to middle, high school, college and professional baseball. These were the happiest days of his life. His dream was to retire and coach his grandkids. Ed leaves his wife of 38 years, Rita, sons, Volney Trevor Rikki, grandkids Ashton, Reilyn and Mayce; Trek Tyson Molly, grandkids, Jaxson, Cooper and Delaney; Tyrel Daniel Stefanie, grandson Trot. He also leaves brother Lennis Hill Becky, Mike Tami; sisters Barbara Bender Herbie, Karen Stiyer, Harriet Estep Shawn Desoto, Marvel Teagle; also many nieces and nephews. Ed was preceded in death are his parents and his in-laws, May and Dan Chavez. Ed was overwhelmed with the love and support of many during his short illness. Special thanks to Dr. Rick Marquardt for being such a great friend and taking care of Ed. "He loved you very much." We'd like to also thank the family and friends who helped Ed pass the time of day while we were all at work. Some people came faithfully every day to help. Herb and Barb Bender, Gerald and Andre' Chavez, Harriet Estep and Shawn Desoto, Bruce Ausmus, Paula Bailey, Leigh Ann and Steve Knutzen, the Short and Allenbaugh families, and the Randy and Lori Scott family. Also, thank you to all the others I didn't mention. Sometimes as many as 20 to 30 people a day would stop by to visit. "Your love and support meant the world to me", he would say when you left. He loved each one of you. Your generosity was overwhelming and touched Eddie's heart in a very special way. Viewing will be Sunday, January 16th, 2011, from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., at Mueller's Tri-Cities Funeral Home at 10th and Union Street in Kennewick. Funeral services will be held Monday, January 17th, 2:00 p.m., at South Hills Church at Hwy 395 and 27th Avenue in Kennewick.
