Victor "Red" Rutherford passed away on March 10, 2011 at Kennewick, WA at the age of 86. He was born on October 19th, l924 in Okmulgee, Oklahoma to Ruell Scott Rutherford and Maude Rutherford. He married Bernadette Sally Miller on January 5th, l946 in Portland, Oregon. They had 65 years of a wonderful marriage. He is survived by his wife Sally, son; Rick Rutherford and his spouse Lois, son: Randy Rutherford and his spouse Nancy, daughter Susan Peachey and her spouse David, all from Kennewick and sister Fern Garrett of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma; seven grandchildren, Jaime Brad, Shawna Jeff, Cale Beckie, Cady, Scott, Dan & Jessica; and eight great-grandchildren, Marisa, Jordan, Jaden, Jerrah, Nicole, Amiyah, Aubrie and Baby Boy Miller. He was preceded in death by beloved daughter Bonnie Rutherford, father and mother Ruell and Maude Rutherford, as well as three brothers and two sisters. He lived in the Tri City area since 1948. He was a hard worker, ready to meet any challenge and enjoyed life with his family and friends. He was a great father, taking time to participate in his children's activities and take the family on many memorable trips. He always had a story. Red was passionate about being a pilot and flying his Cessna. He enjoyed antique cars, owning several, and was a long time member of Ye Olde Car Club. The family was kept in halibut for many years due to his annual fishing trips to Port Hardy and Homer. Red worked in the Portland shipyards during World War II building Victory Ships. He was owner and operator of mobile home sales, Reds Trailer Mart, one of the largest mobile home sales in Eastern Washington, and was known as Red the Trailer King. He advertised that he would trade for about anything, and often did. He built and operated several mobile home parks, owned and operated a mobile office leasing company, a shopping mall, and office building and several large mini storage complexes. He served as President of the Washington Mobile Home Dealers Association, President of Columbia Basin Chapter of Trailer Coach Association, President of Washington Mobile Home Park Association, and President of Kiwanis Club of Kennewick. He was a member of Kennewick Kiwanis Club and had perfect attendance for more than forty years, and was an honorary lifetime member. In 1996 he received the George F. Hixson Award from Kiwanis International, the organization's highest award. He was Kiwanian of the year in l990 and 1994, Kennewick Man of the Year in l996, and Tri City Man of the Year in 2002. In 1992 he was the Grand Marshall for the Benton-Franklin County Fair parade. Red was a founding member of the Tri-Cities Cancer Men's Club and led the car raffle to raise money for the Cancer Center. He chaired the drive for the Video Camera Project which put cameras in State Patrol and local law enforcement cars, and established the Kennewick Kiwanis foundation which sponsors scholarships for deserving students in area. He was the driving force behind the "Edith House" project in our area. He was instrumental in raising money for the Kiwanis Fishing Pond in Columbia Park, the flag on top of the Blue Bridge and a van for Columbia Basin Shrine Club to transport sick children to the Shriner's Hospital in Spokane. For over thirty years he served at the Benton-Franklin County Fair as principal organizer of gatekeepers, ticket takers, and sellers for the Kiwanis, and worked to improve the public entrance to the fairgrounds. He served on Meals on Wheels for over ten years delivering meals to the shut-ins and disabled. Red was a valuable volunteer and support to such organizations as Tri-Cities Prep, Special Olympics, Boy Scouts, Union Gospel Mission, Bailie's Memorial Youth Ranch, KGH Foundation and the East Benton County Historical Society. As a member of the Finance Board at St. Joseph's Parish he launched the very successful "Buy-A-Brick" fundraiser to help build a new church. He was a woodworker that built over 200 Blue Bird houses for use in the Ephrata area, and countless benches, chairs and other projects for family and friends. There will be a viewing at Mueller's Chapel of the Falls in Kennewick on Tuesday, March 15th, 2011 starting 9 a.m., with a Rosary at 6 p.m. The funeral will be at St. Joseph's Catholic Church new in Kennewick on Wednesday, March 16th at 11 a.m., followed by a graveside service, and then a Celebration of Life at St. Joseph's Dillon Hall. In lieu of flowers you may make donations to Hospice at The Chaplaincy in Kennewick. The family also wishes to thank the staff at Tri-City Cancer Center and Dr. Stanley Ling.
