She also leaves behind numerous nephews and nieces that she loved and cherished. Vickie was predeceased by her parents, Peter and Barbara (Patana) Ruohonen; her sister, Terri Ann Hongisto and her in-laws, Felix and Florence Kangas. Vickie was born on November 23,1955 in Hancock, Michigan to Peter and Barbara Ruohonen. She graduated from Houghton High School in 1973 and married her high school sweetheart, Timothy John Kangas, on February 2, 1974 at Pine St. Lutheran Church in Hancock, MI during a snowstorm. Vickie always wanted to be a mother so they ran fast at life and had two daughters in the first two years of their young marriage. She was an avid reader of romance novels so it worked out well when Tim decided to take a job as a manager of a bookstore. She was a fast reader and was known to read a book per day if she had free time. She loved to be outside and spending time with the people she loved. In the winter she could be found cross country skiing with her mom and sisters or downhill skiing with Tim and the girls. She would go sledding or snowmobiling with all of the kids and even pull kids back up the hill while they enjoyed the ride. Her summers were spent camping and swimming with family and friends. She enjoyed going for walks and visiting along the way. Even as her brain disease progressed, her walking continued. Visiting with words became a thing of the past but the walking continued right up until a few weeks before her passing when she suffered from a broken hip due to a fall. Vickie loved to visit. Saturday night sauna at her mom and dads was tradition for many years. Cousins and friends would gather and visit while we took turns scrubbing up in preparation for church the next morning. She didn't know many strangers because she would strike up a conversation with anyone who had the time. She would jump in and help whenever she saw a need. She loved helping in the nursery at church and children naturally gravitated toward her. If she saw someone cleaning up the kitchen or a young mom who needed a hand, she would jump in to help with a smile on her face. Her smile, her laugh and her willingness to help will be missed. Her nurturing spirit will be missed. Her love and her friendship will be greatly missed. We are thankful that this is not goodbye forever, we will see you in the morning. A memorial service will be held at Bethel West Pasco church on Friday, February 4, 2022 at 3:00. A second memorial will be held at Zion Lutheran Church in Hancock, MI on February 25, 2022 at 3:00.
