Vernon Lowell Jones, 86, reunited with his beloved wife, Charlotte, on Jan. 5, 2014. Vernon was born Oct. 5, 1927 in Chesaw, Wash., to David Jones and Lila Smith. He and his older brother, Fred, were raised by their grandparents, Jennie and Arthur Smith, on their farm in Orville, Wash. Vern was very fond of his grandparents. From 1946 to 1951, Vernon worked on the Grand Coulee Dam as a heavy machine operator. Following his work on the dam, he joined the U.S. Army where he served 14 months in the Panama Canal during the Korean Conflict. After his military service, Vernon rejoined his family in Samuels, Idaho, where he met the love of his life Caroline Charlotte Hindberg. They later eloped on Feb. 13, 1954 in Coeur d'Alene, Idaho. Four daughters were born unto this union. He worked in the construction industry on many projects throughout the Pacific Northwest, Mexico and Venezuela before retiring in 1989. Vernon enjoyed, reading traveling, hunting and camping. He was a devoted husband, father and grandfather. Vernon was preceded in death by his wife of 54 years, his brother, and two grandsons, Scott and Martin. He is survived by his four daughters, Dora (Bruce) Hansen of Centralia; Peggy Blimka of Spokane; Deborah (Dennis) Hutchins of Kennewick; and Susan Dent of Richland; 14 grandchildren; and 21 great-grandchildren. Graveside services will be held Saturday, Jan. 11, at Columbia Memorial Gardens, 224 S. 24th Ave, Pasco at 10 a.m. A viewing will be held prior at 9 a.m. at Mueller's Greenlee Funeral Home, 1608 W. Court Street in Pasco.
