Obituary

Vera V. Kanen passed away June 29, 2015 at Kadlec Medical Center in Richland, WA. Vera was born in 1929 in Granville, ND to Fredrich and Magdalene Widmayer. She graduated from Granville High School and moved to Walla Walla, WA in 1947. A strong and proud person, she raised three children as a single mother. She passed her strong moral values and respect for others onto her children. Vera began working in the Walla Walla County Treasurers office in 1962. She was appointed as County Treasurer in 1976. Throughout her 17 year career as treasurer; she was admired for the service she provided. Vera retired from office in 1993. She had a wide variety of interests and hobbies. Vera loved flowers and always took pride in having beautiful flowers in her yard. She loved to sew and was an excellent seamstress. Vera was an avid sports fan and rarely missed a Seahawks or Mariners game; she especially enjoyed watching her grandsons' games. Vera is survived by a son, Keith Kanen, Walla Walla, WA, daughter Jill Goemmer (Jay), Kennewick, WA. Grandsons, Nathan Nichols (Molly), Phoenix, AZ, Cody Nichols, Anoka, MN, and Garrick Kanen, Silver Lake, WA. A sister Elsie Carlyle of Walla Walla and brother Gary Widmayer of Granville, ND. She was preceded in death by her parents, a son, Craig Kanen, and brothers, Albert, Clifford, Vernon and Lowell; sisters Arlene, Viona, Adalene, and Lovetta. Mueller's Tri-Cities Funeral Home of Kennewick entrusted with arrangements. A private service is being held by the family.
