Todd Anthony DePoe, 52 of Kennewick, passed away April 20, 2014 in Las Vegas, Nevada. Todd was born March 21, 1962 in Coulee Dam, Washington to Charles R. "Bob" DePoe and Barbara J. (Beasley) DePoe. Todd spent his first years at Coulee Dame, WA where his father worked for the USBR. His most noticeable achievement at that time was as a finalist in the Spokesman Review Newspaper Beautiful Baby Contest. From the ages of 3 to 6, he bounced around the Pacific NW with his parents chasing construction and boiler work. They settled down in Cheney, WA in 1968, where his father worked for EWSC. Todd began attending school and completed grades first through sixth. During this time he made many friends, some lifelong, including Stacey Schneider and Dale Bren. Todd became active in Boy Scouts and completed two 50-milers in the Cascades and the Rockies. The family moved to South Dakota in 1975 where Todd completed grades eighth through tenth. He was active in band, motorcycle riding and Boy Scouts. He made a trip to the Philmont Scout Ranch in New Mexico during this time. An enduring memory is delivering newspapers during a blizzard in a pickup truck with his father. The temperature in the cab was zero degrees with the heater wide open. The family moved to Richland, Washington in 1978 to chase Nuke Plant Construction. Todd almost completed grades 11th and 12th. He was active in band and worked at the laundry after school. In January 1980, Todd joined the Marine Corps at age 17. He celebrated his 18th birthday at MCRD in San Diego doing pushups in the sand pits. He subsequently completed high school while in the Marine Corps, a condition of welcome home from the family. While in the Marine Corps, Todd completed Basic Training and Advanced Infantry Training at Camp Pendleton. He was subsequently assigned to the Marine Corps "Force Reconnaissance" at Camp Pendleton. He trained and was on standby as one of our nation's fast response military units. He was offshore on alert in a helicopter assault ship during the Salvador fracas. Todd spent four years in the Marine Corps and was stationed at Okinawa and Camp Pendleton. The family is proud of his service. After the Marine Corps, Todd joined the Hanford Patrol providing security for the Hanford Works in Richland, WA. He was on the Rapid Response Team. Todd met and married Cameron Short of Sumner, WA in 1984. They lived in Richland, WA, where their sons, Jacob, were born in 1985 and Jeremy was born in 1987 and both were welcomed into their blossoming family. Todd and Cameron raised two fine sons during their time together. They were divorced in 2003. Todd and his family moved to the Seattle area in 1987, where he attended the Law Enforcement Academy and subsequently joined the Seattle Police Department, where he served some 17 years. During this time they family moved to Monroe, WA where Todd commuted to work in Seattle. Todd spent most of his time at the Seattle Police Department in the Central District (Capitol Hill). He was involved in every kind of incident imaginable, including the WTO riots in the '90's. A real scary experience was to spend a shift with Todd as a civilian "ride along" on the night shift at Capitol Hill. We'll never forget it. Todd received many commendations and was well regarded by his fellow officers and supervisors. He was an acting sergeant at the end of his tenure. During Todd's time at Seattle PD, he took leave and served some 16 months as a Civilian Police Monitor for the United Nations in the European Balkan States, near Vukovar. This was an active war zone when he arrived and he had many close calls and experiences that shaped the remainder of his life. Todd went on disability from the Seattle Police Department in 2003 and retired in 2005. He went on full disability from the Veterans Administration as a result of the rigors of his military service. Todd was a member of the Oregon Coast Confederated Tribes of Siletz Indians (Joshua band of the Tootuteny) and is memorialized at the Tribal Cemetery Veterans Memorial in Siletz, Oregon. Todd suffered greatly with little complaint during his last years with us. It can be said that Todd gave his life in defense of and service to the people of this country. He was an outspoken patriot on the conservative side of all issues. His family is very proud of him, his accomplishments and service. He is greatly missed by his family and all who knew him. Todd is survived by his father Charles R. "Bob" DePoe; stepmother Elizabeth P. "Dolly" DePoe; brother Mark D. DePoe (Anita); sister J'Anna J. Golombek (Chuck); sons Jacob DePoe and Jeremy C. DePoe (Katie); seven step brothers and sisters, Eugene J. Cirignano, Anna T. Cirignano, Vincent P. Cirignano, Shawn O. Cirignano, Anthony C. Cirignano (Jeanette), Rosalie Cirignano, Regina M. Cirignano; and grandchildren Hailey G. DePoe and Jeremy C. DePoe, Jr. Todd was preceded in death by his grandparents, aunt Martha, Uncle Ted, cousins Bumper and Stephen, and his mother, Barbara J. (Beasley) DePoe. Funeral services will be held today, Saturday, May 3, 2014, at 12 Noon, at Mueller's Tri-Cities Funeral Home, 1401 S. Union Street in Kennewick with visitation beginning at 9 am.
