Obituary

Terry Mae Lawrence (Gulliksen)

Terry Mae Lawrence (Gulliksen), beloved wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, educator, counselor, advocate, and friend, passed away peacefully on August 16, 2026, surrounded by the love of her family. Throughout her life, Terry exemplified strength, humility, deep faith, and an unwavering commitment to serving others.

Born on June 8, 1942, to Dorothy and Jorgen Gulliksen, Terry developed an early appreciation for family, community, and service. After earning her bachelor's degree in education from Humboldt State University, she married the love of her life, Leo Lawrence. Together they built a marriage of nearly 62 years, marked by devotion, partnership, laughter, and a shared commitment to family and faith.

While Terry found great joy in raising her four children, her love for children extended far beyond her own family. Believing that every child deserved safety, encouragement, and the opportunity to reach their potential, she dedicated much of her life to their welfare. Determined to pursue her own education and professional calling, she earned a master's degree in Counseling Education, served on the Kennewick School Board, worked as a school counselor, and later volunteered with Court Appointed Special Advocates/Guardians Ad Litem (CASA/GAL). Through each role, Terry was a steadfast advocate for children and families in need.

Terry's Catholic faith was the foundation of her life and guided her commitment to service, compassion, and generosity. She was deeply involved in her church community and found great joy in the friendships she nurtured over the decades. Whether through her parish, lifelong friends, or extended family, she had a gift for forming lasting relationships and making people feel welcomed, valued, and loved.

Terry was preceded in death by her parents, Dorothy and Jorgen "Dort" Gulliksen, and her brother, Joe Gulliksen. She is survived by her husband of nearly 62 years, Leo Lawrence; her children John Lawrence (spouse Tracey), Craig Lawrence, Mark Lawrence, and Lisa Leitzelar (spouse Brian); her grandchildren Jorgen, Jenna, Ana, Hope, Brooke, Tristan, Eva, and Clara; her great-grandchildren James and Adaline; in addition to many beloved extended family members and friends.

Terry will be remembered for her compassionate heart, steadfast faith, devotion to family, and lifelong advocacy for children. Her influence will continue to be felt in the lives of the family members, friends, students, and children whose lives she touched.

Memorial services will be held at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Kennewick on September 25, 2026. The Rosary will begin at 10:00 a.m., followed by Mass at 11:00 a.m.

In lieu of flowers, the family welcomes donations in Terry's memory to CASA/GAL, supporting the advocacy and protection of children she cared so deeply about.
