It was a great day of celebration when Susan Marie was born June 12, 1957 to Paul and Norma Friberg in Yakima, WA. But, it was the greatest day of rejoicing by the hosts of heaven when Jesus her Lord and Savior came for her, the morning of August 11, 2015, and He said: "Well done thou good and faithful servant, enter into your rest." Wherever Susan went, the grace and mercy of Christ preceded her with healing, realized by all who met her. Primarily Susan grew up in Wenatchee, WA, graduating from high school in 1975. She then attended Wenatchee Community College, graduating with her AA degree. But what was greater is that she said "Yes!" on January 8th of that same year and was married to Terry on August 19th. They made their home in Connell and began busily helping on the family farm, keeping a beautiful home by planting yellow and red tulips in the front flowerbeds. She created lifelong friends through ceramics class, attending services and Bible studies at the First Baptist Church and sharing in the joys of sewing and quilting. On October 26, 1981 Kenton Athos was born, she was so blessed; but she was doubly blessed when her best friend, Jillian Paige was born on January 4, 1984; both mom and dad made it to Kadlec Hospital on that icy morning, just in time. When Kenton and Jillian entered grade school, Susan was always busy volunteering in her children's classrooms. In 1991, Susan became a para-educator first at Mesa Elementary, then at Connell Elementary, where she impacted children's lives, alongside Connie Halverson, for almost 10 years. In 2002 she set out to accomplish a lifelong dream, to receive her four-year college degree. Susan attended Washington State University Tri-Cities and earned a bachelor's degree in elementary education, receiving the highest of honors. From 2004-2012, Susan worked, taught and inspired as a fifth grade teacher at Connell Elementary where she enjoyed working side by side with her cherished friends, Maxine Hicks and Bonita Kroontje. During her time at North Franklin School District, Susan became a certified Project GLAD trainer, worked on STEM curriculum for ESD 123, alongside Jillian, and became the first NFSD educator to receive the National Board Certification in 2009. In the spring of 2012 she was nominated and awarded as NFSD Educator of the Year. Throughout her twenty plus years in education, she impacted, influenced and changed hundreds of students' lives. She instilled the virtues of being trustworthy, honest, having integrity and always giving and asking for forgiveness. She was her students' champion, believing in them and pushing them to become their greatest potential in life. In the fall of 2012, Susan and Terry set out on a great adventure and were hired to teach for Quality Schools International, in Almaty, Kazakhstan. She was able to live out her dream of experiencing the world by travel. She accomplished her goal of seeing some of her favorite places she had only read about: Italy, Paris, Portugal and even riding the world's fastest rollercoaster in the United Arab of Emirates. Susan was full of life, adventure and love for her family and friends. She was always able to face the greatest of life's adversities with the strength and grace from her Savior, Jesus. She will be remembered for her faithfulness and trust in His unfailing love and always simply believing that God's promises are true. Susan's family would like to extend a sincere thank you to the Neuro-oncology Department at the University of Washington, specifically Dr. Maciej Mrugala and nurse Natalie Johnson. They were able to provide treatment for Susan which extended her life beyond her initial diagnosis. We will be forever grateful for the care, concern and encouragement they provided Susan throughout her entire journey. Susan's family would also like to thank the doctors and nurses at Evergreen Hospice Center in Kirkland, Washington. The peaceful atmosphere provided allowed Susan to rest and finally meet Jesus face to face. Susan is survived by her husband of 38 years Terry, her two children Jillian and Kenton, mother Norma Friberg (Spokane), sister Karen and brother in law Tom (Sandpoint, ID.) She is also survived by numerous in-laws, cousins, nephews and nieces. Susan is preceded in death by her father, Paul Edward Friberg, 2004. Services in celebration of Susan's life will be held at Connell Church of the Nazarene on August 15th, 2015 at 2 pm with a graveside service following at Mountain View Cemetery in Connell. Memorial contributions may be made to True Disciples in order to provide schooling for Sophie Germayoni Jarquin Rodgriguez. She is a student in San Pedro Sula, Honduras; whom Susan has faithfully sponsored to receive an education, while learning about the love of Jesus.
