Obituary

Steven L. Melichar, 67, of Kennewick WA, beloved husband, father, brother-in-law and friend, passed away peacefully on Aug 18, 2026, after a long battle with cancer.

Born in Albuquerque, NM. In the early 1960's, his family moved to the Tri-Cities area. He graduated from Kamiakin HS in 1977. He is survived by his devoted wife Linda of 34 years; loving daughter Nicole Melichar; Rodney Melichar (brother); and he was preceded in death by his adoptive parents Augusta and Henry Melichar.

Steve had a love for learning new hobbies. He sang swing choir in high school; water skied and boated; tried knee boarding; raced RC cars, go-carts, Mini Stock Class out at Tri-Cities Raceway. He then got into flying RC airplanes and helicopters. He rode motorcycles (Street & Dirt); then snowmobiled for years. He was an Auto Mechanic, loved doing body work and painting various personal cars as well as others. He played guitar, took up golf, and enjoyed camping with family and friends. He was a talented, multi-faceted individual.

Steve retired from his job as an Electrician with the Kennewick School District in July 2025.

Steve fought an eight-year battle with a rare cancer. Doctors told him it would be a lifetime marathon, no cure. STEVE was a Champion! He handled the monthly CT scans; the numerous radiation and chemo treatments with dignity. He smiled his boyish grin with a glint of mischief in his eyes, entertaining the medical staff with his quicky comments; and enjoyed every opportunity life gave him through the last years. He renewed his faith in Jesus Christ and now rest with him. He will be greatly missed by many.
