Steve John Sakey was born on May 11, 1923, to Steve and Caroline Sakey in Springdale, Pennsylvania. He passed away on September 30, 2009, in Kennewick, Washington. After growing up in Pennsylvania, he served in the US Army during WWII and was stationed in India and California. Following his discharge from the Army, he remained in California where he met the love of his life, Margaret Gillespie. They were soon married and spent 55 happy years together. Steve was a senior planner and master scheduler, working for North American Rockwell, Boeing, and Westinghouse/Hanford. He was involved in NASA's Apollo Program and Space Shuttle missions. In his spare time, Steve enjoyed gardening, fishing, taking photographs, and hunting rocks in the southwest desert. He traveled throughout the Middle East, exploring the pyramids of Egypt and the Holy sites of Israel. He was also a longtime member of Riverview Baptist Church in Pasco, Washington. He is survived by three daughters, Charlotte Wood of Maryland, Cheryl Fischer of Washington, and Jeanette Williams of Wisconsin, and a granddaughter, Stephanie Wood of Washington, D.C. A graveside service will be held at 2 pm, October 17, 2009, at Riverview Heights Cemetery, 10th & Olympia Street, Kennewick, Washington.
