Simon Valdez Villarreal passed away peacefully in Kennewick, WA. on September 19, 2022, of natural causes. He had celebrated his 84th birthday just 5 days before. Simon was the youngest of 6 children all of which passed before him.

Simon was born on September 14th, 1938 in Lyford Texas. As a migrant worker, Simon traveled from farm to farm, working in the fields, and picking crops with all of his family. With barely a 4th-grade education, Simon was drafted into the United States Army and was stationed in Germany for a brief time. Simon was honorably discharged in 1962. Simon met Rosa Duran at the age of 18 at a local dance in Toppenish WA in 1956. Simon briefly married another and they had 1 son together with his namesake before divorcing and eventually reuniting with Rosa in 1968. They courted and were married in April 1969 and decided to move to Seattle, WA. Later that year, Simon rejoined the Army as a reservist where he would complete 29 years of service.

Simon and Rosa had two children, Christopher (deceased) of Kennewick WA. and Victor of Seattle WA. He coached their Little league baseball teams for several years and enjoyed watching pro wrestling on TV and in live events. He also enjoyed fishing trips and camping with his sons.

Simon was a welder by trade and worked for Washington Iron Works until 1974 before starting his career with the Army Corp of Engineers. His first position was as a maintenance man at the Naval Shipyards in Bremerton WA. Simon would travel 30 minutes from home at 4 am daily to catch a ferry for another 70-minute commute. Simon later worked at the Ballard Locks for nearly 20 years until he and his wife moved to Kennewick WA in 1993. Simon later retired from the Army Corps of Engineers and eventually the United States Army Reserve.

Simon was not much for traveling or vacations unless it involved visiting family. One particular family road trip consisted of driving to Mexico City, Mexico with several stops along the way to see relatives.

Simon lived out his retirement years in Kennewick spending the majority of his time as part of the Benton County Sherriffs Posse, enjoying breakfast and coffee with friends and watching the Mariners lose year after year.

Those who knew Simon would say that he was a loyal friend, and devout husband, father, grandfather, and uncle to all his nieces and nephews. Family always came first. Simon is preceded in death by his mother and father, brothers Angel (Paula), Tiburcio (Carmen), Jose (Estella), Reyes (Victoria), and sister Manuela (Eliodoro). He is also preceded in death by his son Christopher.

Simon is survived by his wife Rosa, and sons, Simon, and Victor (Mollie). Grandsons, Michael, Stewart (Angelea), Cameron (Jordyn), Emilio, and Noah. Granddaughters, Leslie, Allie, Demetria, and Natalia. Great-Grandchildren, Marceline, Penelope, Alex, and Cheyenne.
