Shirley passed away peacefully at home on July 18, 2007, one day after her 52nd wedding anniversary. Shirley was born in Tacoma, WA, on September 7, 1932, to Lewis Clarke Hughes and Ethelwyn Harris Hughes. Shirley graduated at age 16 from Stadium High School in Tacoma and four years later from the University of Arizona with a degree in pharmacy. She was proud of the fact that she was one of the very few women who attained a degree in pharmacy in 1953. After graduation, Shirley moved to Walla Walla where she met the love of her life and fellow pharmacist, Robert L. Fisher. They were married on July 17, 1955 the day that Disneyland in California opened for business! In 1956 Bob and Shirley moved to Richland, where their children, Brad and Stacie, were born. In 1958, they opened Fishers' Pharmacy in Kennewick which operated until 1971. They later opened Crown Drug in Pasco and retired for good in 1975. After retiring, they enjoyed 18 years as snowbirds, spending winters in Arizona. Shirley was active in many organizations, serving as President of Altrusa and Chairperson of the women's division of the Tri-City Country Club. She also enjoyed many active years with Tri-Delta Sorority. Shirley was a voracious game player and enjoyed watching Jeopardy, The Price is Right and Wheel of Fortune. She was a wonderful golfer and expert bridge player. She was particularly happy when she and Bob hosted the family for a spectacular Alaskan cruise in July 2005 in honor of their 50th wedding anniversary. Shirley is survived by her loving husband of 52 years, Bob Fisher; son Brad Jennifer Fisher; daughter Stacie Russ Hamilton; grandsons Kevin Heather Walker, Zach Fisher and Craig Dawn Hamilton; granddaughters Megan Walker, Chelsea Fisher, Lindsey Fisher, Quinci Fisher and Crystal Garner; and great-grandchildren Addison Walker, Makenzie Hamilton and Caden Hamilton. The family would like to extend their heartfelt gratitude to the wonderful staff and volunteers at the Tri-Cities Chaplaincy, especially Kristi, Amy and Heather who all helped comfort Shirley and her family during her final days. The family requests remembrances be made to the Tri-Cities Chaplaincy Hospice House, 2108 W. Entiat Ave., Kennewick, WA 99336. A memorial service will be held Friday, July 20, 2007, at the Church of the Nazarene, 2402 S. Union, Kennewick, at 1:00 p.m.
