Obituary

Joan "Shawn" Alice Ozaki-Sims, age 67 of Pasco, Washington, passed away on Friday, November 7, 2025.

Shawn was born in Mt. Vernon, Washington, on May 3, 1958 to the late Al and Mary Fridlund. Shawn and Raye were married in 2017 and had been together for 23 years. Shawn worked as a para-educator for many years in the Sunnyside School District. She decided to switch careers and went into retail management. She started out at Kmart but also managed at Shopko, Ross, Burlington, Harbor Freight Tools, and At Home.

Shawn was the kind of mom and friend everyone wished they had — caring, loyal, and just the right amount of sass. Her kids and grandkids were her everything, her dogs were her sidekicks, and her circle of friends was more like family. She had a way of making people feel seen, loved, and usually laughing so hard they cried.

Whether she was relaxing with her dogs, planning the next get-together, or clinking glasses with her favorite people, Shawn lived life the way it should be lived — fully, joyfully, and with a salted rim.

Shawn is preceded in death by her husband Linton "Ray" Sims, her mother Mary Fridlund and her father Al Fridlund. She leaves to mourn her brother Larry Fridlund (Dori), sisters: Alana Sparks, and Kathy Scherer (Larry), sons: Jared Ozaki (Brianne) Donovan Jackson Sims (Jessica), Marlin Phillips (Karen), Sean Sims (Tori R) daughters: Danielle Blakesley (Craig), and Tessa Joyce (Jason). Shawn also leaves behind 16 grandchildren and many aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
