Sandra Kay (Summers) Ziegler was called home to our Lord and Savior on Thursday, December 12th, 2024, in Kennewick, WA. She was born May 25, 1938, in Lafayette, IN to Hanley & Geneva (Wilson) Summers. She was called "Sandy" by family and friends or affectionately referred to as "Aunt Doe" and was known for her warmth, kindness, and undeniably loving sprit.

She attended Griffith Senior High School, class of 1956 and earned her Bachelor's degree studying Christian Education, Journalism and Bible at Crossroads College (formerly Minnesota Bible College) in 1962. In her career, she was a former Managing Editor and Producer at Child's World Books for Early Education as well as Standard Publishing. While living in Cincinnati, she enjoyed following the Cincinnati Reds and attending their home games and was an usher for the Cincinnati Pops Orchestra.

She devoted her life to Christian children's ministry and education and touched the lives of many generations through her work and volunteer service. Sandy's reach was as far as it was wide with bonds that were formed from the heart. She was cherished deeply by many. She was a talented writer and a published author for small and large publications as well as several of her own books. She was an outspoken source of great wisdom and faith, and she knew where your life and your soul could find peace. Her purpose in life was to be His disciple and she mastered the art of living out her faith with that intention.

In 1968 she married Neil Ziegler and together they shared countless travel adventures, a love for the outdoors, exploring new destinations, family time and fishing.

She was preceded in death by her husband Neil Ziegler, her parents Hanley & Geneva Summers, sister Jacqueline Kearney, brother-in-law Kenneth Kearney, brother-in-law Richard Papiese and nephew Paul Papiese.

She is survived by her step-daughter, Cheryl Reiman and grandson Kristopher Reiman, sister Jane Papiese, Nieces Mona (Scott) Davis of North Bend, WA and Lara (Shawn) Fricke of West Richland, WA and Nephews William Papiese of Benton City, WA, Steve (Martha) Kearney of Chesterton, IN, Greg (Judy) of Michigan City, IN and David (Jane) of Richmond, VA as well as numerous great nieces and nephews.

Her final days were spent smiling and singing praises. She took every opportunity to share with family and caregivers about her upcoming travel destination, and the mansion waiting for her. She used her entire life and even her last days to impart some essential words of wisdom for faith and salvation.

Sandy was beautiful, thoughtful, kind, crafty, musical, well-traveled, well written, well educated, well spoken, faithful, serving, loving....and the list goes on and on.

The phrase "All who wander are not lost" brings warm thoughts of Sandy. The family finds comfort in knowing that she is enjoying new roads to explore and will be waiting for us with all the best tips for the most magnificent scenic routes. Until then, she will be deeply missed by all who know and love her.

A memorial service will be held on Saturday January 4th, 2025 at 2pm at Mueller's Funeral Home, 1401 S. Union St, Kennewick, WA.
