Sandra's Obituary

Sandra Jane Smith was born on August 23, 1942, in Abilene, TX, to Geroge and Zella Pierce. Her family moved to Richland, Washington, in 1944 for her dad to work out at Hanford. She graduated from Richland High School in 1961. She then moved to Seattle to go to Beauty School. While living in Seattle, she met her husband, Morris Smith, at church. They were married May 2, 1964, in Richland, Washington. She continued to work as a beautician until they began having children in 1966. She then continued working part time jobs, mostly as a church custodian for several churches, so that she could be home for her children.

The family moved to Kennewick, Washington, in 1978. Morris was the manager of a medical homecare company. Sandy ended up being his receptionist. Following that she began searching for what she really wanted to do. She owned a small fabric store called Family Fabrics for a time. But soon enough she was able to put her passion for cooking to work and opened a restaurant called Sandy's Kitchen. She was famous for her biscuits and gravy and homemade soups. The restaurant was an instant hit; she had many regular customers that came in weekly and some even daily. She ended her career as a cook for the Hospice House. She loved cooking for and ministering to those in their last days.

Sandy was a devoted wife and mother of two, grandmother to three and great grandmother to three. She loved her family fiercely. She was not saved until she was a teenager and loved the Lord with all of her heart and spent her life finding ways to serve Him. She taught youth Sunday School for years and made an impact on many young people who have stayed in touch with her. She also cooked for anything and everything. She cooked for countless fellowships and church banquets for churches all over our association. While she had her restaurant, she opened it up to pastor's lunches and other church events. She cooked for 20 plus years at Youth Camp. After a long day of cooking instead of resting, she could be found out in the worship services talking to and encouraging the many youths that came through. People still talk about her chicken enchiladas.

She was loved by all that met her. She had a heart for the Lord and wanted to share His love with all that she met. She had a way of drawing people to her and building relationships so that she could share the Lord.

She was preceded in death by her father, George Pierce; mother, Zella Pierce; her husband, Morris Smith; and her sister, Barbara Edens. She is survived by her daughter, Becky Smith, married to Terry; son, Jeffrey Smith, married to Jennifer; her granddaughter, Brittnee Lommers, married to Sheldon; grandson, Kevin Smith; granddaughter, Andie Smith; and great-grandchildren, Beau, Lainey and Hunter.
