Ruth Farmer Krueger was born at home on a farm near Frannie, Wyoming on February 26, 1929, the same year Mickey Mouse was created, as she liked to say. The third child of four, Ruth survived childhood rheumatic fever and grew up to be valedictorian of Deaver High School, Class of 1946. She attended the University of Wyoming earning her Bachelors of Arts of Education in 1950 and Masters in 1968. Ruth married her childhood sweetheart, Harvey Krueger, on June 12, 1949 in Garland, WY. She was a busy mother of four boys while juggling teaching primary school and helping Harvey develop a farm which she continued to manage after his passing. Family was of primary importance to her and she never forgot special family occasions. From a young age Ruth knew she wanted to teach. She pursued this passion for 27 years with love and discipline, championing reading and positively affecting 1000's of young people. The last 20 years of her career were in Prosser, WA. Ruth was a member of Alpha Delta Kappa Teachers Sorority, an avid doll collector, loved sewing and handcrafts, crocheting over 1000 pillows and afghans in her retirement years. She loved to travel with friends and family visiting places such as Hawaii, Alaska, Europe and Australia. Ruth is survived by her sister Illene Whaley, her brother Wayne Farmer and her four sons Fred, Bill, Les and Ray Krueger, nine grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband Harvey Krueger, brother John Farmer and a grandson Daniel Krueger. Ruth was very supporting, open-minded, nonjudgmental, and had a great sense of humor to the very end. She never knew a stranger and was loved by all including her "family" at Royal Columbian. She will be deeply missed. Graveside services will be held Saturday, April 28th, 2012, at 11:00 a.m., at Prosser Cemetery, Prosser, Washington. Memorial services will be held Saturday, May 12th, at 11:00 a.m., at Victory Baptist Church, 7903 W. Grandridge Blvd in Kennewick. In lieu of flowers donations may be made in Ruth's memory to Alpha Delta Kappa, International Honorary Organization for Women Educators for Scholarship Fund, 1615 West 92nd Street, Kansas City, MO 64114.
