Rosemary June Estes passed away on May 29, 2017 in Kennewick, WA. She was born on May 25, 1927 in Lingle, Wyoming to Rose Preston Watkins and Ted Watkins. Her family moved to Kennewick in the early 1930's along with several family members and neighbors from Nebraska. Ted said, "When we said 'write if you find work' we meant it. They did, so we came." Rosemary married Harry Donart Estes in 1944, eloping with him on his weekend pass from the Army. They had two children; Michael and Gayle. Rosemary returned to the workforce when both kids were in school, beginning her career as a banker. She took night classes in accounting and began doing bookkeeping for small businesses when her children were in high school. She enjoyed the independence of setting her own hours and kept books for numerous local businesses over the years. She and Harry joined friends and formed a business to rent out agricultural irrigation equipment and install in-ground swimming pools in the early 1970's. Rosemary continued doing bookkeeping for other businesses into her mid-seventies. She then began several years as a volunteer for the Washington state Long-Term Care Ombudsman Program. She also donated her services as a notary and enjoyed helping other seniors and their families. Rosemary was a charter member of Business and Professional Women and American Business Women in the Tri-Cities. She was a member of an Antique Study Group for many years and enjoyed the friendships she made with fellow antique collectors. Harry passed away in 2001 after 57 years of marriage. Rosemary is survived by her son Michael (Karen) and daughter Gayle Napier (Art) of Kennewick, WA. Also surviving are grandchildren Jennifer Estes Scheehle (Rob) of Lewis Center, OH; Scott Estes (Kim) of Kennewick; David Napier (Jennifer) and Angela Napier George (Tim) of Lynnwood, WA; nine great-grandchildren; her sister Opal Watkins Stoops of Moses Lake, WA; her cousin Kae Watkins Hopkins (Pete) of Pasco, WA and numerous nieces and nephews. Rosemary was preceded in death by her parents, Ted and Rose Watkins; her husband, Harry; and an infant son. Rosemary will be missed beyond what words can express, but we feel very fortunate to have had her as a mother and grandmother for so many year. Those we love can never be more than a thought away. For as long as there is memory, they live on in our hearts. Our thanks to Dr. Ramesh and the Trios Hospital staff and other caregivers who provided so much compassionate care to Rosemary for the past few months. A memorial service will be held in Mueller's Chapel of the Falls, 314 W. Kennewick Avenue in Kennewick on June 10 at 2:00 pm.
