In Loving Memory of Rolando Hernandez

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Othello, WA, native, Rolando Hernandez, on April 16, 2025, due to natural causes. Rolando was a devoted father, beloved son, loyal brother, true friend, dedicated soldier, and committed public servant. He was a man of unmatched generosity. He always was willing to lend a hand at a moment's notice. Always willing to go the extra mile, stay to the last second and ensure others were taken care of before himself. Rolando was a rarity amongst his peers. At the time of his passing, he was surrounded by some of his closest friends.

Rolando proudly served the community he grew up in as a Police Officer for the Othello Police Department for five years. He carried out his duties with integrity, professionalism, and a deep love for the people of Othello. Becoming a police officer was Rolando's lifelong dream, and he fulfilled that dream by serving others with heart and humility.

In 2006, Rolando enlisted in the United States Army, where he served with pride as an Airborne Infantryman in the 1st Battalion, 501st Parachute Infantry Regiment, 4th Brigade Combat Team, 25th Infantry Division at Ft. Richardson, Alaska. He completed two combat deployments—one in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom, and another in support of Operation Enduring Freedom.

Rolando continued his service in the Washington Army National Guard, where he served much of his time with 1st Battalion, 161st Infantry Regiment. His first assignment was with Bravo Company and his last assignment was First Sergeant of HHC. In 2021, Rolando deployed once again, this time in support of the Joint Multinational Training Group–Ukraine (JMTG-U).

Throughout his military career, Rolando received numerous awards and decorations, including:

• Expert Infantryman's Badge

• Combat Infantryman's Badge

• Army Parachutist Badge

• Air Assault Badge

• 5 Army Commendation Medals

• 6 Army Achievement Medals

One of the greatest honors of Rolando's service was the opportunity to serve alongside his two brothers in the Washington Army National Guard. He was known as an empathetic and capable leader—someone who always found the balance between accomplishing the mission and taking care of his soldiers. He was a master of his craft and a mentor to many. Those who served with Rolando knew how deeply he cared for them, and that love was reciprocated. His legacy will live on in the lives and hearts of the men and women he served with, all of whom will always be considered family by his own.

Rolando was also a man of education and personal growth. He was a proud first-generation college graduate from Washington State University (Go Cougs), where he earned a double bachelor's degree. He later obtained a Master's Degree from American Military University.

Above all, Rolando was a devoted father. His pride and joy was his daughter, Chloe M. Hernandez, who is now 18 years old. Rolando was incredibly proud of Chloe, especially upon seeing her recently accepted into her dream school—Gonzaga University.

Rolando was deeply loved by friends and family across the country. He found joy in simple moments: grilling at family BBQs, watching sports, sharing laughter, giving heartfelt advice, and enjoying a well-earned vacation when time allowed. His infectious smile and unforgettable presence touched many lives. A true, hard-working man of his generation, Rolando's legacy will live on in all who had the privilege to know and love him.

Rolando is survived by:

• His daughter: Chloe M. Hernandez

• His parents: Rogelio & Maria Hernandez

• His siblings: Sandra Garza (Raul Garza Jr), Jessica Miller (D. Jake Miller), Ivan Hernandez, and Isaac Hernandez

• His Nieces and Nephews: Sophia Garza, Isabella Garza, Ava Garza, Austyn Miller, Aryana Miller, Alayna Miller, Evan Hernandez

• And countless friends, family members, and fellow soldiers

Tuesday, April 29th – Memorial Service | 10:00 AM–1:00 PM (Memorial service will be followed by Military Honors presented at Bess Hampton Memorial Gardens- 1915 W. Cemetery Rd, Othello, WA)
