Roger passed away at his home on May 12, 2007, after a courageous battle with cancer. He was born Feb 2, 1932 in Portland, Oregon to Everett Eugene and Mary Phyllis Wetle. Known to family and friends as self-made man who put others before himself, Roger served his country by joining the army at age 15. During his 20 years of service, he was stationed in Korea, France, Alaska, and the South Pacific, and earned many stripes and honorary medals. Roger served his community as a member of the Shriners, past Commander of the American Legion, and as a member of the Elks Club. He built a successful career in the nuclear power industry, working at Trojan, Trident, Hanford, LaSalle, and Calvert Cliffs. He provided his wife of 41 years, Brigitte Wetle, and his three daughters Danita Wetle, Patricia Clemmer, and Michele Goley with a wonderful life filled with love, security, travel, and many adventures. Roger also maintained a close relationship with three sons Jerry, Pierre, and William Wetle from a previous marriage. He enjoyed spending time with his family and friends, traveling throughout the United States and Europe, and collecting rare coins. He was an avid history buff and golfer. His proudest moment in golfing occurred on July 24, 2003, when he golfed a hole in one. His least favorite golfing memory involves flattening out and blackening the eye of a fellow golfer who failed to duck after Roger yelled ?FORE!? Roger leaves behind many fond memories, quality friends, and loving family members. He is survived by his wife and children, and many grandchildren. Grandchildren from his daughters? side are Nichole Wetle, Courtney, Cara, and Cameron Clemmer, Stephanie and Victoria Goley. Grandchildren from his sons? side are Jerry Jr., Daniel, Sean, Ian, and Rachel Wetle. Roger is also survived by his brothers, Gerald Wetle, and Rick Newton. A memorial service and military salute will be held on Monday, May 21 at 11:30 a.m. at Mueller?s Funeral Home in Kennewick, WA. Rev. Tim Ledbetter will deliver the eulogy. The Wetle family would like to thank the numerous friends and extended family members who offered their kindness, love, and support during Roger?s abundant life, and during his difficult final days. A special thank you goes out to the Tri-City Chaplaincy and all members of Hospice, who so graciously offered their services and compassion to our family.
