Robert Wayne Simmons 60, loving husband, father, grandpa, son, brother, brother-in-law, uncle, great uncle, and friend to many. Robert passed away on October 16, 2011 at Swedish First Hill Medical Center in Seattle, WA. Robert was born in Naylor, Missouri on September 20, 1951 to Lynn Simmons and Julia Simmons. Robert proudly served his country in the United States Army, he served two tours of duty in Vietnam and also spent time in Indochina. He received the National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Service Medal, Sharpshooter M-14 Rifle, Vietnam Campaign Medal with 60 DVC and three Overseas Bars. Robert was Honorably Discharged from the United States Army on the 1st day of October 1975. Robert was also a firefighter in Neosho, Missouri. He was also accepted to the police academy in Arizona. He worked for Eppich Grain in Basin City, he was a truck driver. He went to work at Lamb Weston in Connell, WA on March 6, 1989, where he was employed for 22 years. He was also an AG mechanic, Field Specialist #2. Robert was a very hard worker, and could handle most anything people put on his plate. Robert was married to Paula for a very short period of time. They had a son David Lynn VanHagen who now resides in New Zealand. In 1977 Robert met his loving wife Sandra Taylor at Lamb Weston in Connell, WA. They were married on July 16, 1983. They were married for 29 years, together for 35 years. Together they had four children , Megan Lynn Simmons, Joshua Ray Simmons, Matthew Lee Simmons Cassandra Lonas, and Michael Lee Simmons. Robert had four beautiful grandchildren which he loved dearly, Dylan Gardener, Tyson Ellifritz, Rebecca Ellifritz and Ryan Simmons. He is survived by his mother Julia Hendricks; sisters, Linda Ward, Sharon Lyons, and Constance Echols; brothers, Allen Simmons, Thomas Simmons; tons of nieces and nephews and great nieces and great nephews on his side; mother-in-law Mable Taylor; Jim and Dorothy Coyle, John and Gloria Taylor, Jay and Debra Bitterman, Jesse and Janice Bernal, Dennis and Doris Dortch, James and Karen Taylor, Victor and Patricia Hopkins, Danny and Terri Taylor, and tons of aunts and uncles and nieces and nephews and last but not least many dear friends. Robert had an adventurous life, he had traveled to many places and seen many things. He had a lot of amazing stories to tell. Robert had an amazing heart, and he tried to help anyone who was in need. That is just who he was. He was the greatest man I've ever known. He was someone you could turn to for anything, and if he didn't have an answer for you he would do his best to try to find it. He was a great shoulder to cry on and a strong person when you needed him to just be strong. Robert was a very special person who touched many people's lives and hearts. He will forever be missed by loved ones and friends alike.
