Our beloved husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather and great-great-grandfather Robert Gordon (Gordie) Torie passed from this earth on May 20, 2013 and went fishing with our Lord in Heaven. Gordie was born in Olds Alberta, Canada to Gunvoult and Lottie Torie on July 15, 1923. He joined the Navy and served during WWII from 1943 until his discharge in 1946. After his Navy tour in the Pacific he moved to Benton City, purchased acres, fell in love with the girl next door and married Cecelia (Babe) May Torie on September 5, 1948. In his ambition to provide a better life for Babe and his seven children, together they farmed eighty-three acres and he worked out of the Millwright 96 Local. He was a member of the Millwrights' 96 Local in Kennewick for over fifty years, retiring in 1986. He served as the union job Stewart in Hanford nuclear construction and was an excellent Millwright and was known for his strong work ethic, honesty and unquestionable integrity. He took personal pride in doing excellent work, he loved people, and he was known for his generosity and willingness to help others. Gordie loved fishing, dancing, boating, hunting deer and elk, socializing, playing cards, farming and livestock, camping trips with family and friends and telling and hearing a good joke. He and Babe loved to travel in their motor home, and no one was ever a stranger to Gordie! He had quick wit and no shyness talking with anyone-campsite neighbors soon became friends. Gordie is survived by his wife, Cecelia (Babe) May Torie of 64 years of Kennewick; daughter Linda and John Ritchie, Son Robert Gary Torie and Andrea Mina, son Roger Wayne Torie and Joann all of Benton City; daughters Bonnie Albano and Cecelia Lynn Torie both of Kennewick; Son William Dean Torie and Traci of Finley; daughter Vickie Lynn Torie of West Richland; and numerous grandchildren, great and great great grandchildren. The last two years Dad had a renewed lease on life, with the introduction of Professional Case Management nurses and KGH doctors through their tender loving care the family had two years! A man's legacy is not riches, possessions, or worldly goods of any kind; it is the way he lived, the lives he touched, the promises he kept, Dad your legacy is in our hearts and we won't forget about all the contests you entered trying to win a fortune for all of us. In celebration of Gordie's life, a memorial service will be held at Mueller's Tri-Cities Funeral Home on Friday, May 31, at 2pm.
