Robert Lee (Bob) Miles, 88, of Kennewick, WA passed away peacefully on Saturday, March 2, 2013. Bob was born in Vera, Oklahoma to Marie Belle Lewis on September 12, 1924. He served honorably in the Marine Corps, enlisting in 1942. His service to our country would remain an important part of his life. His tour during World War II included the Pacific Theater where Bob participated in the battle of Guadalcanal. After his discharge in 1945, he ventured to Kennewick where he met and married his lifelong love, Helen Meyer. Their marriage of 63 years is an example to all of us. Raising six children together, their life was busy. Bob was a proud member of the Operating Engineers Local #370. He helped build many dams throughout the Northwest and worked at Hanford and various construction sites until he retired in 1984. Bob and Helen fulfilled their lifelong love of adventure as they traveled the world together. Bob never met a stranger. He enjoyed visiting, teasing people and telling wild stories. One of his great joys was celebrating with family and friends. Be it anniversaries, birthdays or any random Saturday, Bob wanted everyone together. Bob was preceded in death by his wife Helen, his mother, Marie Lewis and two sons, James and Daniel Miles. Bob is survived by his children Nancy Briggs (Steve) Richland; Gary Miles, Kennewick; Donna Nelson (Gene) Spokane; Barbara Schultz (Faron) Powell Butte, OR, daughter in laws, Marlene and Betty Miles, eight grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. Visitation is from 5 to 8 on Thursday, March 7th, 2013 at Mueller's Tri-Cities Funeral Home, 1401 S. Union Street, Kennewick with the Rosary at 7:30. Funeral Mass will be held at 10:00 a.m., Friday, March 8th, at St. Joseph's Catholic Church, 520 S. Garfield St., Kennewick, where Bob was a long time parishioner. A graveside service at Desert Lawn Memorial Park will follow. Special thanks to the residence and staff at Hawthorne Court Senior Living for their kindness and friendship.
