On June 20, Bob Gregg, 76, passed peacefully into the presence of Jesus. He was surrounded by family at Hospice House in Kennewick. Bob was born December 22, 1931 to Clarence and Esther Gregg in Morrill, Nebraska. Bob graduated from Kennewick High School in 1951. After spending 4 years in the US Air Force, Bob came back to the Tri-Cities and completed a Machinist Apprenticeship with GE at the Hanford Site. His machinist skills were used at various machine shops around the Tri-Cities. In 1956, Bob met the love of his life, Joy Calder. They began courting and were married in June, 1957. Bob and Joy are blessed with three sons and their wives, nine grandchildren, and two great-grandchildren. They recently celebrated 51 joyous years together. Bob loved to hunt and would spend a week's vacation hunting and camping during deer season. He also loved to farm and owned several small family farms in the Finley area. A tradition for many years was to spend Labor Day weekend with family and friends camping at Ohanapacosh Campground near Mt. Rainier. We all enjoyed the Packwood flea market and coffee and Oreos around the campfire. Bob was diagnosed in the mid 80's with nerve deterioration in his legs and took a disability retirement from Battelle in 1992. He learned to drive with hand controls, initially resisting using a cane, and later, a walker. He much preferred leaning on Joy as his pillar of support. In August 2007, Bob was diagnosed with lung cancer and only the last few weeks agreed to use a wheelchair. He loved watching his children and grandchildren's music and sports activities, even when it meant struggling across a ball field or up stairs to a concert. He maintained his positive, encouraging attitude and quick wit right up to the end. Bob was a long time member of First Baptist Church of Kennewick and showed his serving heart by helping with the Awana children's program, high school youth, ushering, property committee and 14 years as Financial Secretary. Bob also served on the Board of Child Evangelism Fellowship as Treasurer. Bob was preceded in death by his mother, father, two stepfathers, brother Bernie and granddaughter, Lindey. Survivors include wife Joy, sons and their wives: Randal & Jenny Gregg and children, Michele, Holly, Jeremy Esmay & Joanna; Roger & Cheryl Gregg and children, Jared, Hillary and Kevin all of Kennewick; and Rob & Barbara Gregg of Boise ID, and daughters Jessica Heering, of Vancouver, BC and Michelle Vincelli, her husband Tony, and their children Alivia and Gavin, of Boise, ID. Bob was loved and respected by many. He was the light of his grandchildren's life and "Papa" will forever be their hero. His strong faith and belief in Jesus Christ as his Lord and Savior brought him peace throughout his earthly life. Bob desired a "Celebration of Life" service, which will be held at First Baptist Church of Kennewick, 27th Ave & Hwy 395 on Tuesday, July 1st at 3:00 p.m. with a reception to follow at the church. There will be a viewing on Monday, June 30th from 5-8 pm at Mueller's, 1401 S. Union. We ask instead of flowers, memorials be sent to First Baptist Church or Hospice House.
