Richard Dean Wittkopf, 85, passed away July 26th, 2013 at his Kennewick home. He was born to John and Winnie Wittkopf, June 27, 1928, in Yakima, Washington. He was raised in Prosser and graduated from Prosser High School in 1946. Following his army service Dean married Donna Jean Freed in 1953. They raised their family and farmed in Kennewick for nearly 60 years. In recent decades, cherries and apples became their primary business. In addition to the orchards, Dean enjoyed many activities. He was an avid sports enthusiast, having lettered in football, baseball and basketball in high school. Dean and Donna were active golf members at TCCC and went on many golf trips with friends. They also enjoyed boating and snow skiing with family and friends. He has supported WSU Cougars for more than 40 years and remained a season ticket holder. Many family trips included Cougar bowl games. In addition, he has been a Tri-City Americans season ticket holder since their inception. His love of sports continued to his final days. Every morning he opened up the newspaper to tear out the television game schedule to plan his day. Dean was preceded in death by his wife Donna (March 2010) after 57years of marriage. He is survived by daughters, Linda Peters, Richland; Liann (Rick) Richardson, Renton; and his beloved grandsons, Cameron (Tiffany) Richardson, Kennewick; and Brock (fiancé Whitney Peterson) Richardson, Richland. He also leaves behind his "baby" sister Midge (Rocky) Wahl, Redmond who he adored; and numerous nephews, nieces and in-laws. His parents, sister Myrna Pursell and brother Gilbert also preceded him in death. Family and friends are invited to join us for a Celebration of Life, Sunday, August 4th, 2013, 11:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m., at Tri-City Country Club, 314 N. Underwood Street, Kennewick. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the charity of your choice. Dean was a kind and generous man who truly enjoyed his family and friends. We will miss him, but we are grateful for all the wonderful memories.
