Our dearest Richard left us to be with our Lord and Savior on July 20, 2011. He was born in Portland, Oregon, on June 21, 1927, to Marguerite and Wayne Harper and graduated from Newport Harbor High School in 1945. Richard enlisted in the Navy in 1945 and graduated in 1952 from WSU, Pullman, Washington. Richard touched the lives of many people with his smile and generosity, and maintained his sense of humor all the way to the end. He was a dry land wheat farmer for 12 years and began a career in irrigation in 1971. He worked for various irrigation companies, ending his career with Skone Irrigation and Northwest Ag Products, both Pasco, Washington. Richard has always been willing to help organize and lead people through a variety of events, which includes Masonic Lodge, Lions Club, VFW, and Kiwanis. Richard enjoyed attending services at the Living Room Church every Sunday and was re-baptized in 2009 which provided him peace and comfort throughout the remainder of his life. He was one of two children born to the late Marguerite and Wayne Harper and was the beloved husband of Judy Harper for over 34 years. Richard will forever be remembered by his children, Tracey B. Ryan, Judy L. Deines, Kelly and Ed Wood, Jeffrey and Kathy Harper and Rick and Monica Harper; grandchildren, Kendra Deines, Jim and Lisa Ryan, Shawn and Jessica Harper, Nick Harper, Stephanie and John Payne, Alex Harper, and Kate Wood; great-grandchildren, Savanna and Dalton Ryan, Connor and Logan Harper, and Gabrielle and Benjamin Payne; niece Susan VerBurg, along with countless other friends and family who were blessed to know him. He is preceded in death by his sister, Joanne and his parents. The family would like to especially thank Louise Nelson and Tri-Cities Chaplaincy Hospice House for the dedication in caring for Richard. A Memorial Service will be held at the Living Room Church, Kennewick, Washington on Saturday July 23rd at 2:00 p.m. A graveside service will follow in Waitsburg, Washington. Donations in lieu of flowers can be made to the Living Room Church.
