Raymond Nicholaus Massard was born to parents Michael Joseph Massard and Mary Wiechers-Massard on December 5, 1919 in Carroll, Iowa. He was preceded in death by his mother, father, and sister Marie Remme. At the age of one, Ray, his parents, and sister moved to Minneapolis, MN. The family left Minneapolis when he was five, and moved to Chicago, IL. In 1934 they moved to Tacoma, WA where Ray attended Lincoln High School. In August 1942 he enlisted in the 8th Army Air Corps and was sent to England during WWII. In September 1945 he was honorably discharged and returned to Tacoma, where he met Leona Nimick at a dance in Spanaway, WA. They were married on September 14, 1946 and celebrated their 63rd anniversary in September. They had two daughters, Raelene L. Massard-Cuillier husband Tom, and Elaine M. Massard-Needham husband Carle. Ray was a Moose member for three years in the Tri-Cities, and a lifetime Elk member. He was a brick mason by trade and worked in the Tri-Cities, WA from 1961 -1966. In 1966, Ray & Leona moved back to Tacoma and Ray became the Northwest Superintendent for Babcock & Wilcox from 1971 - 1983. He was a member of Local One Bricklayers Union in Tacoma, WA. In 2006 they sold their home in Tacoma and returned to Pasco, WA to be near their daughter Raelene and her families. They have four grandchildren Michelle Cuillier-Davis Pasco, Daniel Heather Cuillier Dublin, CA, Brent Cuillier Pasco, and Brandon Kristy Needham Pasco. They also have six great-grandchildren Tiffany Davis, Matthew Davis, Andrew Needham, Emily Needham, Joshua Needham, Kendall Cuillier, and several nieces and nephews. To his family he will always be remembered as "Sarge". A memorial will be held on his 90th birthday at Mueller's Tri-Cities Funeral Home, 10th & Union Street, Kennewick on Saturday, December 5th, 2009 at 2:00pm.
