Randall "Randy" Hubbs, 70, of Kennewick, Washington, passed away on May 24, 2026, during a skydiving jump. His passing was unexpected, though few who knew Randy would be surprised that he was still chasing adventure. Born February 5, 1956, in Richland, Washington, Randy was a man who believed life was meant to be lived out loud, shared generously, and never wasted — and he spent 70 years proving it.

A Family Built on Adventure

Randy and Jana built a family life that moved. Janelle and Ryan were part of everything from the start — tucked into car seats and backpacks, brought along for every adventure. Randy didn't believe in waiting until the kids were older to start living life with them; he believed in bringing them along.

For years, the family made an annual trip to Priest Lake with a beloved group of friends — camping, water skiing, shared meals, and the kind of friendships that last a lifetime. Time outdoors wasn't reserved for special occasions; it was woven into everyday life. Camping, hunting, fishing, and days on the water became family traditions that spanned generations. When grandchildren Stella, Harlan, and Griffin came along, Randy found great joy in watching those traditions continue as they discovered their own love for adventure and the outdoors.

His children grew into adults who love the outdoors, love adventure, and love music because he showed them how. Watching those same passions take root in his grandchildren brought him tremendous joy.

The Man at the Center

Randy was, above all things, a man who showed up. He showed up for Jana through nearly 45 years of marriage, modeling for his children what a devoted and enduring love looks like. He showed up for Janelle and Ryan with intention, never letting anyone he loved settle for less than they were capable of. He welcomed his son-in-law Aaron as family from the very beginning and remained a trusted friend, mentor, and source of encouragement throughout his life.

He had a remarkable ability to see potential in people and encourage them toward it. Whether as a father, teacher, mentor, friend, or colleague, Randy challenged people to grow while making them feel valued along the way. He was the kind of man you called when you didn't know what to do, and he always seemed to know what to say. His laugh was unmistakable. His jokes were, by his own standards, excellent.

A Life of Music, Mentorship, and Purpose

Randy was a gifted trumpeter whose love of music shaped every stage of his life. He spent 36 years in education — first at Pasco High School, then 26 years as Associate Professor and Director of Bands at Columbia Basin College — where he shaped generations of young musicians. He is credited with naming the Cavalcade of Bands, performed for decades with the Mid-Columbia Brass Quintet, and founded the Columbia Basin Jazz Orchestra. His love of music became his family's love of music, and his children and grandchildren carry that with them still.

In 2015, he and Jana co-founded Legacy Investors, creating housing for adults with special needs. In 2022, he contributed to "Next Level Your Life," and in 2024 to "Lessons from Thought Leaders," both Amazon bestsellers. From the age of 18, Randy was also an avid skydiver — embracing the same spirit of adventure that defined every chapter of his life.

Randy is survived by his wife, Jana Hubbs; his daughter and son-in-law, Janelle and Aaron Williams; his son, Ryan Hubbs; his grandchildren, Stella, Harlan, and Griffin; and his sister, Janet Diediker.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Glenn V. Hubbs and Aleda H. Hubbs.
