Phyllis Anderson Steele, beloved mother, grandmother, sister and friend, passed away on June 25, 2025 surrounded by her loving family.

Phyllis was born on November 2, 1963 to Curtis and Charlotte Anderson in Salt Lake City, Utah at the LDS hospital. After she was born, they lived in American Fork next to her grandparents near the railroad. They moved to Virginia when she was 5 years old, where she enjoyed exploring outside with her brothers as a child. As a teenager, she was active in her high school music program, playing flute in band and participating in piano competitions.

Phyllis attended BYU and earned a bachelor's degree in nursing. Amidst her fervent studies, she met Fred Flint Steele in a chemistry lab. It was clear from the beginning that carbon and hydrogen weren't the only ones with chemistry in that lab. They married on May 22, 1984.

After college, Phyllis moved with Flint to Tri-Cities, Washington. They eventually built a home on the same farm that Flint grew up on and welcomed eight children into their lives. Phyllis was known for her tender, loving care and total dedication to her children. She filled their home with music as an accomplished pianist and flutist. She played flute for several years as part of the Columbia Basin College orchestra and was the choir director for her church choir for many years. She tirelessly championed her children's education and extracurricular activities, driving them to piano lessons, sports practice, play practice and more. Intelligent and creative, her children still admire the beautiful quilts that she lovingly stitched. She loved to read and instilled in her children an admiration for fine literature, especially Jane Austin. An active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, she taught her family about love of Christ through her words and actions. She was always ready with a smile and a warm hug. Her patience never seemed to run out, and it's hard to recall her speaking a negative word about anyone. Phyllis Steele is remembered for the way she lit up a room with her warmth and kindness.

Phyllis is survived by her husband, Flint Steele, and their children Dallin (Colleen), Elise, Andrew, Spencer (Madelyne), Austin (Moriah), Timothy, Jonathan (Sara), and Stephanie; and grandchildren, Kendra, Nicole, Michelle, James, Nathan, Lucy, Charlotte, Clark and Stella; and siblings Claudette (Wayne Borrowman), Nathan Anderson (Melissa), Eric Anderson (Dara), and Jolene (Steve Hiatt).
