Peter Steele Bixby passed away peacefully the morning of March 13th, 2026. Peter was born March 27, 1930 on the island of Oahu, Hawaii. His father Lawrence was in the army which meant a fair amount of moving around. They spent time at family property in Buttonwoods, RI, an enclave founded by his great grandfather. Fort Sills Oklahoma was home for a period of time, then Peter was sent to Wentworth Military Academy for his school years. He was able to join his father during the occupation of Japan after WWII.

Peter served in the Air Force during the Korean war, spending much of his time on special duty including working as a correspondent for Stars and Stripes, and other agencies. During his service his step sister had a friend that began corresponding with him. The letters with Loewy Ann Charles led to their marriage after his service ended.

He and Ann attended University of Oregon, beginning their family with the birth of Bradford. After college they moved to California, continuing their family with Allen, and then Laura. San Jose became home for many years, where both Peter and Ann became teachers. It was in the early seventies that the family moved to Wenatchee Washington. It was there they separated.

Peter went on to marry Luella Vaughn. They were both active in community theater and their church. Together they decided to move to Kennewick, and Peter became the drama teacher at Richland High School, the job from which he ultimately retired. Luella ultimately passed and that period of his life ended.

Not Long after he went to a social coffee event in Kennewick and met Carolyn Bauch who survives him as Carolyn Bixby. Together, they enjoyed their sunset years with travel to Hawaii and visiting family. They were active in the church and fans of playing games with friends. For the last couple of years Carolyn cared for Peter as age and time began to take its toll. Ultimately that lead to his passing peacefully Friday, March 13, 2026. He is survived by Carolyn, and all three of his children, four grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
