Paul John Silvernail

September 10, 1944 – January 14, 2026

Paul John Silvernail was born on September 10, 1944, in Aberdeen, South Dakota. He was the sixth of eight children. Paul passed away on January 14, 2026, with his loving wife, Patty, by his side.

Paul proudly served in the United States Navy for 27 years. He began his distinguished career as an enlisted Seaman Recruit (E-1) and rose steadily through the ranks, retiring as a Lieutenant Commander.

Paul continued his calling to help others through medicine. He was a physician assistant and was among the first graduating classes to enter the profession, helping pave the way for a field that would go on to serve countless patients.

After retiring from the Navy, Paul continued caring for others through his work at the Hanford Environmental Health Medical Clinic in Richland, Washington. He also served as the sole medical provider at the Benton City Clinic, where he was so deeply respected and loved that an exam room was named in his honor upon his retirement. In addition, Paul worked part-time in the emergency room at Kadlec Medical Center in Richland, Washington.

A cowboy at heart, Paul was an active member of the Rattlesnake Ridge Riders chapter of the Backcountry Horsemen. He served the organization as treasurer and membership chair and found great joy in horses, the outdoors, and the backcountry.

Paul's Catholic faith was the center of his life. He served as a Eucharistic minister at Saint Joseph Catholic Church and a counter. His faith guided him daily, and he faithfully prayed the rosary every day.

Paul leaves behind many cherished memories for his children, including making homemade pizzas, camping, boating, hiking, and traveling throughout Europe—especially Spain, where he was stationed for eight years. He was also a devoted dog lover and leaves behind his beloved black labrador, Koda.

Paul was preceded in death by his brothers, Bob, Jim, and Tom, and his sister, Jean.

Paul is survived by his wife, Patty, of 53 years; his daughter, Katherine (Chris), of Colorado; and his sons, Paul Jr. and Kevin, both of Seattle. He is also survived by his beloved grandchildren, Caden and Carmen, also of Colorado. From the day they were born, Caden and Carmen warmed Paul's heart. He was immensely proud of them and loved them dearly.

A rosary will be prayed at 9:00 a.m. on January 31, 2026, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 a.m. at Saint Joseph Catholic Church, 506 S. Garfield Street, Kennewick, Washington. A reception will follow at Dillon Hall.

Paul will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered by all who knew him. Those closest to him will especially miss his hearty laugh and his witty sense of humor.
