On Friday, November 21, 2025 Paul R. Hymas passed away peacefully at home with loved ones at the age of 84.

Paul was born November 2, 1941 to Dell and Rena Risenmay Hymas in Preston, Idaho. He has an older brother Steven, and 5 younger brothers: twins Leo and Leon who died in childbirth, Clint, Charles and Lorin.

Paul married his high school sweetheart, Mona Kay Andersen, in the Logan Utah Temple on December 2, 1963. They were blessed to raise a daughter Michelle (Scott) and four sons Jay (Karla), Mark (Brigette), Brian (Grace) and Jared.

Paul enjoyed his early childhood in Preston and spoke fondly of his time there. His family moved to Othello, Washington in 1954 to begin farming south of Othello. There he developed a strong work ethic farming with his father and brothers during the early days of irrigation in the Columbia Basin. He graduated from Othello High School in 1959. A favorite childhood activity was summer backpacking trips with the scouts and their leader Hugh Sloan. He also enjoyed water skiing with his family and developed a life-long hobby of wood working while in wood shop.

After getting married in 1963 he worked various jobs before beginning farming south of Othello in 1965. His farming was mostly alfalfa, wheat and beans. He farmed with his brother Clint for a number of years. Having a farm enabled Paul to teach his children the skills needed on a farm as well as the value of hard work. Despite it being work, the boys cherished their time spent working with their father, especially when it included riding motorcycles. Paul also spent time raising animals for the children to show at the fair. Breaks in the farming schedule provided opportunities for many memorable family fishing trips.

Paul was a member of the LDS Church and served a 30-month mission for the Church in Argentina from 1961 to 1963. He loved his time there and was always willing to talk about both the people and the country. He also served in many church callings throughout his life, including a service mission for the LDS Church Cannery in Kennewick, Washington. He appreciated the friendships he made during these service opportunities.

He is survived by his wife Mona of nearly 62 years, his 5 children, 15 grandchildren, and 10 great-grandchildren. Interment will be at Riverview Heights Cemetery in Kennewick, Washington.
