Oscar James Davis passed away peacefully on September 27, 2017 at the age of 94. Oscar was born in Quimby, Iowa November 2, 1922. He and his family then moved to South Dakota where they farmed and raised livestock. At a young age the family packed up and moved to the Worley, Idaho area to find a better way of life. They settled down on the edge of Lake Coeur d'Alene cutting wood for the steam tug boats on the lake. Oscar loved this time of his life with the endless outdoors, hunting, fishing, and with many family members living in the area, he was in heaven. After Oscar graduated from Worley High School, he worked in the woods during the Blister Rust Eradication Program then began working at Farragut Naval Base until he was drafted into the Army in March 1943, serving his country as a medic and carbine expert. He went to the European Theater and Patton's 3rd Infantry, surviving the Battle of the Bulge, receiving awards for his excellent marksmanship and the EAME Theater Ribbon with one bronze star. During his military training he was stationed near Toledo, Ohio where he met the woman who would become his wife at a movie theater, Delcie Jones. The two were married and Delcie followed Oscar for the rest of his military training until he was deployed to combat. They had already started a family; son James B. Davis was born while Oscar was overseas. After discharge, they came back to the Spokane area and then a short time later, moved to Richland where Oscar began working at Hanford as a patrolman. He then went back to school and became a radiation monitor until he retired in April 1986. Oscar loved the outdoors, his family, hunting, fishing, and camping which he passed onto his children. Oscar was preceded in death by his loving wife of 60 years Delcie (Pat) on September 10, 2004, his brothers Frank, Ted, and Dutch. Oscar is survived by his children Jim (Julie), Dora (Jim), Lance (Cathy), Brad (Karen), 15 grandchildren and numerous great grandchildren and great-great grandchildren. He loved them all and will be missed by all. Graveside services will be held Thursday, October 12, 2017, 2:00 p.m., at Desert Lawn Memorial Park, 10th and Union Street, Kennewick.
