Obituary

Mom was born in Deer Park, WA on March 27, 1922 to Elven N and Lottie Mae Barnes Galloway, the third of four girls. She always said that even after they got indoor plumbing, with five women in the house her Daddy never took down the outhouse! Her family moved to Pasco the following year and she lived over 90 years of her life in the Tri-Cities. She was married to Glenn M. Baker in March 1943 while he was on leave from the Navy in Seattle. They were married for 63 years until his passing. She worked as a secretary-bookkeeper for Pasco Finance, Washington Hardware and Furniture, and Baker Produce. Until just a few years ago, she still kept her financial records by hand on old fashioned ledger sheets. Mom said she and Dad and were blessed with two daughters, Jodie Lee (Lynn Eberhardt) and Peggy Lynn (Mark Hevland) and four granddaughters; Erin Bott Wright, Sara Eberhardt Donaldson, Leah Eberhardt Gross, and Adrienne Bott Stowe. She always laughed that her two daughters each had two daughters. However, when the great-grandchildren arrived she was thrilled to have five boys and three girls to spoil; Jack and Sadie Wright, Nathan and Ellie Donaldson, Drake and Marcel Gross, and Lochlan and Evelyn Stowe. She was a loving, proud, and generous Mother, Gramma, and "GG". Mom was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, and her sisters Donna and Elaine. She is survived by her daughters Jodie and Peggy, her four granddaughters, eight great-grandchildren as well as her big sister Hazel Mahan, and her beloved Cousin Mary Bayne. Mom's health slowly deteriorated in recent years and severe osteoarthritis and cognitive impairment made even the simplest activities of daily life a challenge. She died from complications of old age on Tuesday, January 23, in the arms of her daughters. The past two plus years she lived at Fieldstone Communities. Mom and our family were truly blessed by the competent, kind, and compassionate care she received there. It was the efforts and skill of the Fieldstone staff that allowed Mom to fulfill her wish to remain in her apartment there until the end. In the last few days of her life, when the conversation would turn to what would be next in her life's journey, she said she didn't want to move because Fieldstone was "where all the good helpers are". We are happy she is now in a place where she won't need helpers anymore. During the last ten days of Mom's life she was able, with full awareness, to joyfully receive visits, calls, Facetime, and letters from family and loved ones. No expressions of love were left unsaid. Mom was never a fan of funerals and tried to avoid them whenever possible. Her amazing genetics allowed her to avoid her own for almost 96 years. In keeping with her wishes, she was buried next to Glenn on Thursday January 25 in a quiet family graveside service.
