Naomi Lewis Brimhall, passed away at home in Kennewick on May 10, 2009. She was born December 10, 1917 in Sunnyside, Utah, the oldest child of Forrest Mason Lewis and Erma Moons Lewis. Her only sibling was a brother, Charles Mason Bud Lewis, to whom she was very close. When Naomi was about ten years old, the family moved to Salt Lake City, Utah, where she later graduated from West High School. Naomi met Jex Brimhall when they were in a church play. Naomi and Jex were together from that time on and were married in the Salt Lake LDS Temple later that year. When Jex was offered a job opportunity at Hanford, the family moved to Richland, Washington in 1944. By that time, the family included 3 children. Two more children were born in Richland, completing their family. Naomi made many friends in Richland, among them a group of ladies affectionately called ?the club? which has met monthly for over 50 years to socialize and complete all kinds of needlework. She was very artistic throughout her life. Her hobbies began with ballet and tap dancing, continuing on to painting, still life drawing, decorating, and many different kinds of needlework. She joined the LDS Church when she was seventeen years old and throughout the years has held many church positions. She has been a teacher in Sunday School, MIA and Primary. She served in the Ward MIA and Relief Society presidencies, and 8 years in the Richland Stake Relief Society presidency. Five of those years were as president. She served 5 years as secretary to the Richland Stake President and 5 years as secretary to the Kennewick Stake President. For 18 years, Naomi and Jex printed the Ward newsletter and Sunday programs. They were Temple workers, traveling to the Seattle Temple for several years. Naomi was a member of the Daughters of Utah Pioneers, serving as Captain of the Columbia River Camp for 8 years. She has worked as a legal and medical secretary, and during World War II, worked for the Air Force in Medical Supply at Fort Douglas, Utah. After the move to Richland, she was employed by G.E. as secretary to several Department Managers and then worked for Battelle Northwest Laboratories as secretary to Department and Division Managers. She was secretary to the BMI Corporate Energy Director for 6 years and the Energy Systems Department for 4 years. At the time of her retirement in 1983, she was a senior secretary at Battelle, with 26 years of service. Among her many professional activities were as Secretary, Vice President and then President of the Pas-Ric-Ken Chapter of the National Secretaries Association. She was elected Secretary of the Year by the members in 1968. The following year, Naomi received her Certified Professional Secretary CPS degree from the Institute for Certifying Secretaries International. In retirement, Naomi and Jex enjoyed traveling and visiting 41 of the 50 States. They made trips to Canada, Mexico, and Europe. They celebrated their 45th Anniversary in Hawaii, and their 50th with a cruise through the Panama Canal. Naomi was preceded in death by both parents; her brother, Charles M. Lewis; and her husband, David Jex Brimhall. She is survived by children, Karol Bud Smith, Dee Charles Jenkins, David Lewis Brimhall, Janet David Robertson and Nancy Gene Mace; 20 grandchildren; 30 great grandchildren; and 3 great great grandchildren. Viewing will be held on Friday, May 15, 2009 from 5:00pm to 8:00pm at Mueller?s Tri-Cities Funeral Home, 1401 S. Union in Kennewick. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, May 16, 2009, 11:00am, at the LDS Buntin Building, 820 S. Buntin Street in Kennewick.
