Our loving mother Myrna Kittson passed away on December 15, 2006. It is our believe that she is now at peace and with our heavenly father. Myrna Ann Nickisch Kittson was born in Wishek, North Dakota, on July 5, 1925. She was the youngest of five children born to her parents Grace Belinda Sheridan Nickisch and Daniel George Nickisch. Myrna attended school in Wishek, ND, and graduated salutatorian from Wabasha MN High School. Following high school, she entered Abbot Northwest Hospital in Minneapolis, MN, as a Navy Cadet Nurse and received a Registered Nurse degree upon graduation. This past summer, she attended her 61st Abbot Northwest class reunion. All the surviving nurses said they called her 'Mary Sunshine' as she always was happy and brought joy into the lives of others. While Myrna worked at Salem OR General Hospital, she met her future husband Augustan Gus Kittson. They were married, December 3, 1947, by a Methodist minister at her Aunt Marion Collins' home in Mound, MN. In 1948, they moved to Tri-Cities, Washington, where she lived and raised their five daughters and one son. In 1955, Myrna and Gus opened Kennewick Industrial & Electrical KIE Supply, Inc. The company has grown and now includes stores in Hermiston and La Grande, Oregon and Walla Walla, Washington. All of their children were fortunate to have worked in the company sometime during their youth and adult years. Their son, Gus, is now President of the company. While working at KIE, Myrna was also very active in our community, teaching Sunday School, Girl Scout Leader, PTA President, President of the Community Concert, Bethel 46 Job's Daughters Guardian, Past Matron of the Eastern Star, President of Kennewick General Hospital Auxiliary, Red Cross Volunteer, First United Methodist Church Alter Guild, President of PEO, Allied Arts, Ladies of the Oriental Shrine and more. Over the years, Myrna enjoyed her many travels to Europe, China, Canada, Mexico, and all over the United States. After Gus passed away in November 1984, Myrna spent winters in Yuma, AZ, and loved the warm sunshine and new friends. She had many enjoyable years with Leon Kilburn, who passed away December, 2005. Myrna is survived by her children, Janet Hartmann Les of Lompac, CA, Cynthia Kittson Don Johnstone, Connie Kittson, and Augustan Kittson Donna, all of Kennewick, WA, Lori Turping and Nicki Keohohou Saf both of Hawaii, her grandchildren Chad, Pace, Ty Hartmann and Cherie Padilla, Jef Johnstone, Gracanne and Dane Keohohou, Ryan and Breanne Turping, Kristin and Scott Rogers, Amelia and Molly Kittson, her fourteen great grandchildren, her sister, Ramona Herr, and numerous nieces and nephews. Myrna was preceded in death by her husband Gus, her parents Grace and Daniel Nickisch, her sisters, Mildred Barra, Alice Skay and brother, Harold Nickisch. Myrna enjoyed her last days at Tranquility Manor in Kennewick, WA where she felt at home, well cared for and loved. Our mother leaves to us a legacy of love, faith, family, education, music, art, laughter, and caring for others. We love and miss her. Myrna left us with a worn, often read copy of the following poem. To Those I Love If I should ever leave you whom I love to go along the Silent Way, grieve Not, Nor speak of me with tears, but laugh and talk of me as if I were beside you there. I'd come, I'd come, could but I find a way! But would not tears and grief be barriers? And when you hear a song or see a bird I loved, please do not let the thought of me be sad ... for I am loving you just as I always have. You were so good to me! There are so many things I wanted still to do, so many things to say to you ... It was just leaving you that was so hard to face ... We cannot see beyond ... But this I know: I loved you so T'was heaven here with you. Arrangements are by Mueller's Chapel of the Falls, 314 West First Avenue, Kennewick, Washington. The viewing is Monday, December 18th from 10:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. with the Kittson family present to welcome visitors from 3:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. A memorial service and celebration of Myrna's life will be held Tuesday, December 19, 2006 at 11:00 a.m. at the First United Methodist Church, 2 South Dayton Street, Kennewick, with a luncheon and graveside services to follow at Riverview Heights Cemetery.
