Obituary

Mona was born on April 3, 1929, in Clovis, New Mexico. She was the 14th of 16 children. She is survived by one sister, Doris, living in New Mexico. In 1946 she married Del Akers and they were together until his death, a week short of 68 years. She died 7 months later on September 6, 2014. She was a resident of the Tri-Cities for 62 years. She worked at Anthony's Department Store and Sears in Pasco. She was also an Avon representative and received many Mrs. Albee awards. Most of her years, she was a homemaker. She was an avid bowler and bowled in several ladies' leagues. She enjoyed staying in shape and went to the CBC gym every morning. She also golfed with the Golf Bags at Columbia Park. She was a long time member of the Lourdes Auxiliary. She attended the Church of Our Savior Episcopal Church until it closed and then became a member of the Riverview United Methodist Church in Pasco. She and Del raised two children, Debbie Lucas (John) and Monte (Sheri). They have 4 grandchildren; Patrick (Courtney) Stanton, Katie (Sal) Aguilar, Kyle (Anna) Akers, and Lindsey (Geoff) Germano and 6 great-grandchildren; Rian Stanton, Grayson, Jaden and Peyton Aguilar, and Campbell and Kylan Akers. One of her favorite things she did was to go to garage sales. Using the Tri-City Herald, she would plan out her route to hit the most garage sales she could. She enjoyed decorating her home with the "treasures" that she found each weekend. It was a family "joke" that presents we received were either Avon or garage sale finds. The family appreciates the professional and loving care provided by the wonderful people at Hawthorne Court, LifeCare of Richland, Legacy House, and Tri-Cities Chaplaincy. Also, a special thanks to Dr. Stan Hales for all his years of medical care. A memorial service will be held at the Riverview United Methodist Church in Pasco on Saturday, September 27 at 1:00pm. Donations may be made in Mona's honor to the Tri-Cities Chaplaincy.
