In Loving Memory of Mitchel Withers
November 5, 1964 – June 22, 2025
Mitchel Withers, beloved husband, father, grandfather, and friend, passed away peacefully at 2:15 a.m. on Sunday, June 22, 2025, in his own home, surrounded by his loving family. He fought bravely for many months, battling the effects of a stroke and cancer with unwavering strength and courage that inspired everyone around him.
Born on November 5, 1964, in Othello, Washington, Mitchel was raised in Eltopia on a farm by his devoted parents, Leland George and Jean Withers. It was there that he developed his love for hard work, nature, and storytelling.
On April 22, 1986, Mitchel married the love of his life, April Withers, after meeting her during his mission for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Cleveland, Ohio. He proposed after just one date—when he knew, he knew.
Together they built a life full of adventure, raising six children: Nikoal Garcia, Witneigh (Tanner Buker), Garisun Withers (Abigail), Madysan Withers, Mandie Withers, and Joshua Withers. He was a proud and playful grandfather to six grandchildren: Alaina, Sophia, Lemmon, Forrest, Piper, and Landon.
Mitchel earned multiple degrees from Columbia Basin College and had a varied and fulfilling career. He began as a farmer, later managing events at The Coliseum and The TRAC Center, where he oversaw the ice rink and was known for giving his kids rides on the Zamboni. His passion came full circle when he returned to farming in his later years, working in agriculture and solar panel installation.
He was a man of many stories—especially the scary kind. Whether it was Bigfoot, aliens, or mysterious creatures in the woods, Mitchel always had a tale ready. Back when landlines were still the norm, it wasn't unusual to call the house and hear one of his legendary voicemails—saying that the family couldn't come to the phone because something wild had just happened. Maybe it was an alien abduction, we ran off to the circus, or some other unexpected adventure—but whatever it was, it was always Mitchel's voice behind the mystery.
He loved hiking, camping, woodworking, and taking his family on cross-country trips, always making time to visit the Oregon Coast. Family was everything to him. His love, humor, and unshakable strength left a lasting mark on all who knew him.
Mitchel was preceded in death by his parents, Leland George and Jean Withers, and his brother, Cary Withers. His memory will live on in the hearts of his family, friends, and all who were lucky enough to be part of his story.
