Maxine M. Schuster Grandma Macky left us peacefully at the age of 93 to be with her husband, Carl, of 60 years, and her two sons, Gene and Don, on Friday, September 3, 2010. Grandma Macky was born on June 21, 1917 in Pomeroy, WA. She moved to Kennewick after marrying her husband, Carl, in 1936. Together they raised three children, Gene, Sally, and Don. Macky worked for the Kennewick School District as a clerk for 15 years and continued to meet with her "lunch bunch" from the district on a regular basis. After retiring, Macky and Carl traveled all over the world and visited all 50 states. Macky was passionate about arts and crafts. She was a member of Beaux Arts, where she displayed and sold many unique pieces, including oil paintings, pottery, wood carvings, dolls, and tole painting. Carl "willingly" accompanied Macky on numerous drift wood hunts and clay excavations around the Pacific Northwest and rewarded himself by using some of her "earnings" to play cards and dice at O' Henry's Coffee Shop with the boys downtown. Along with arts and crafts, Grandma Macky enjoyed cooking and baking for a family of 12, which would have fed most families of 20…she had some pretty big grandsons! Grandma Macky is survived by her daughter, Sally Preszler, her grandchildren great-grandchildren Mike and Darcy Nick, Nate, and Mia, Dan and Jen, Steve and Kristen Peyton and Tanner, Mark and Janet Jack, Jacob, and Max, Brian and Terry Adeline, Kathy and Kim Ryan and seven step great-grandchildren. Grandma Macky was blessed to have been a part of each of her great-grandchildren's lives. Grandma will be missed, but we know that she is having a good time with Grandpa Carl and her boys, and still trying to get the winning hand in a game of gin with Carl, despite his flexible card rules. Grandma Macky was a devout Catholic and a faithful member of St. Joseph's Parish, where her Memorial Mass will be held on Wednesday, September 8th, 2010 in the Chapel old church at 11am. In lieu of flowers the family would like contributions made to Seattle Children's Hospital Foundation, 4800 Sand Point Way NE, M/S S-200 PO Box 50020, Seattle, WA 98145-2153 or at www.seattlechildrensorg.
