Matiana "Tana" Torrez Cantu, 90, born to parents Miguel and Margarita Torrez on September 17, 1925 in Harlingen, Texas, was called home by her Lord Jesus Christ, on March 15, 2016. A Co-founder of the Northwest Pentecostal Holiness Conference, alongside her late husband, Rev. Marin Cantu Sr, she worked selflessly to reach the lost with God's good news, reaching thousands throughout Mexico, Texas, California, Oregon and Washington. After her husband's death in 1980, Matiana assumed the Pastorship at Principe De Paz Church in Grandview, Washington. After 10 years serving in Grandview she retired and went on to found an orphanage in Mexicali, Mexico at the age of 65. For the remainder of her life she lived in the Tri-Cities area of Washington State with her two daughters, Sylvia and Evelinda and their two families. Matiana continued to travel throughout the Pacific Northwest, California, Arizona, and Texas to visit with her family. Throughout her life she enjoyed painting, gardening, calligraphy, crocheting, sewing, and reading the word of God. Matiana was a woman who inspired love, compassion, and faith in God. She had an infectious personality, always showing the love of Christ to anyone she came in contact with. Prayer, faith and the word of God were not only the teachings she preached but the truths she lived by. She was used in miraculous ways because she believed nothing was impossible for God. She loved her family with all of her heart and leaves a legacy for generations to come. Preceding her from this life are three of her children, Marin Jr., Gabriel and Margie; as well as her twin sisters, Consuelo and Esperanza. Matiana is survived by six of her children, Diana, Irma, Miguel, Evelinda, Sylvia, and adopted daughter Tina; and nine of her brothers and sisters, Abel, Jose Luis, Alfredo, Miguel, Roberto, Maria, Mary Helen, Margie and Janie. Matiana was the eldest of 12 siblings. Also surviving Tana are over 70 grandchildren and great-grandchildren residing in Texas, Arkansas, Arizona, California, Oregon and Washington. The Perez and Mendez families would also like to extend a special thank you to the staff of Callaway Gardens in Kennewick, Washington, for all of the loving care given to Tana during her stay. Viewing will be held Saturday, March 19, 2016, 10:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m., at Mueller's Chapel of the Falls, 314 W. 1st Ave., Kennewick. Memorial services will begin at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, at Faith Assembly, 1800 N Rd 72, Pasco.
