Mary (Peggy) Lajune Zwanzig born February 19th, 1929 has passed on to be with the Lord on February 26th, 2015. She was born in Walla Walla, Washington to Harry and Dorothy McDonald. She completed her high school education at Walla Walla High School. She went on to become a telephone operator and later became the supervisor allowing her to travel all over training new operators. She married Lester Zwanzig, whom she dated in high school, on July 1st, 1954. They went on to farm in Touchet, Washington and later moved to Eltopia, Washington to farm. She worked as a secretary for the South Columbia Basin Irrigation District for fifteen years where she retired. She ran all the machinery for the farm right alongside Lester. She also cooked and cleaned for all of the hired hands. She always made sure everyone was fed and comfortable. She was always the first to rise in the morning and the last one to go to bed. She was an amazing woman who knew what hard work was and wasn't afraid of it. She was a very active member of the Kennewick First Christian Church for over 20 years. She is survived by her daughter Suzan Phipps and spouse Neal Phipps of Kennewick, Washington; her son Patrick Zwanzig and spouse Roberta Zwanzig of Watsonville, California; her grandchildren Tyson Gauthier of Kennewick, Washington, Cassandra Gauthier of Prosser, Washington, and Ashley Phipps of Kennewick, Washington; her great-grandchildren Parker, Ariyanna, and Shaun Gauthier; her sister Kathy Mawhin and spouse Frank Mawhin of Oceanpark, Washington; followed by many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents Harry and Dorothy McDonald; her siblings Wanda, Donald, and Michael; and her husband of fifty years Lester Zwanzig. She was the strongest woman known by many and touching many lives with her love and compassion. She will be more than missed by many people. She is happy now that she is reunited with the love of her life Lester and back on the farm.
