Mary J. Hageman Born to Joseph and Leila May Moreno December 6, 1926 in Elkhart, Indiana, Mary's mother passed away when Mary was only 18 months old. Mary and her older sister, Dorothy, were raised by their father and their grandparents. Mary grew up in Elkhart, Indiana and attended catholic school through the elementary years. While working in Elkhart, she met Bernard Buroker from Waitsburg, WA who was attending a technical training program for musical instrument repair. Upon completion of his training, the couple married and moved to Waitsburg and later to Richland, WA where he became employed at Hanford. Their children, Jerome and Debra, were born in Richland. In 1966 Bernard drowned in a tragic boating accident. After Bernard's death, Mary met Alvin Hageman, and they were happily married for 49 years. He lovingly cared for Mary until the end of her life. She delighted children with her sense of fun and playfulness. Their home was open to all, and she treated the neighborhood kids like her own including them in activities such as fishing, gardening and playing ball. Mary always greeted everyone with a big, warm smile that made her instantly likeable and loveable. She started selling Avon when her children were young, and being a people person, she enjoyed the contact with her customers. They, in turn, liked her. Mary delighted her customers by delivering Avon products on her 3 wheeled bicycle clocking over 1500 miles through the years. Her daughter, Debra, described her as a "mother to all her Avon customers." Her son, Jerome, added, "She gave more than she received." She made many friends and stayed at Avon for 45 years winning Presidents Club Awards and over 30 Alby Awards for high sales. Upon retirement, she gave many of her favorite customers the chance to select their choice of Alby Award statuettes until all were given away. She was a very giving and heartfelt person and donated to a variety of charitable organizations as well. An avid bowler for many years, Mary was a member of many major league teams and the senior league. One highlight of her bowling career was bowling with Pro Bowler Walter Ray Williams in a Pro/Am tournament. Mary had many interests. She was a member of the St. Patrick's Altar Society. She was great at macramé and crochet making afghans and most anything she decided to do. In her retirement years, she knitted hundreds of dishcloths giving them to church for their care packages and to friends, neighbors and anybody she came in contact with. Alvin Hageman, Mary's husband, wishes to thank all of the nurses, doctors and staff at Lourdes Medical Center. Survivors include husband, Alvin Hageman; children Jerome (Seattle) and Debra (Ridgecrest, CA); granddaughter Sari Eriksen and her husband, David, (Ridgecrest, CA); sister, Dorothy (Elkhart, IN) and numerous nieces and nephews. Funeral and mass will be held at St. Patrick's Catholic Church, Pasco, on Saturday, March 5, 2016 at 11:00am. Inurnment will follow at City View Cemetery, Pasco, with a reception to follow at Moose/Knights of Columbus at 2617 W Sylvester St. Pasco.
