Mary Ann Norman Garland passed away peacefully on November 13, 2025. She was born on March 9, 1938, in Topeka, Kansas, to Clifford Norman and Juanita Baird Norman. After graduating from high school, Mary Ann earned her Bachelor's Degree in Nursing from Stormont Vail College in Topeka. She devoted 50 years of her life to being a registered nurse.

During her career, she spent two years in The Dalles, Oregon, as an ER nurse and two years in Pendleton, Oregon, as a floor nurse. She then worked 17 years as a med-surg nurse and another 17 years in the GI lab with Dr. Mike Roach, both at Lourdes Medical Center in Pasco, Washington. Her final 12 years were spent working in family medicine with Dr. Stanley Hales and Dr. Jeffrey Markle until her retirement in 2016. She was deeply respected by colleagues and patients alike. One of her favorite quotes was, "I thank God, he allowed me to be a nurse."

After college, Mary Ann married the love of her life, James Garland, on July 4, 1959, in Topeka. They moved west in 1960, living in Heppner, The Dalles, and Pendleton, Oregon, before settling in Pasco in 1972. Together, they raised two children. Mary Ann was a devoted member of First Baptist Church of Pasco for more than 50 years and considered everyone there part of her family.

Mary Ann was preceded in death by her parents, Clifford and Juanita, and her sister, Rose Marie Glatt (Dean). She is survived by her husband, James Garland; daughter, Cathy Hills (George); son, Dan Garland; brother, Jim Norman (Charlotte); sister, Bernice Spicer (Derald); and Marlene McCary (Sister in Christ). She is also survived by her five grandchildren—Travis, Zachary, Danielle, Ashley, and Chelsea—and two great-grandchildren, Talissa and Zane.

A service honoring Mary Ann's life will be held at First Baptist Church of Pasco, Washington, on November 21, 2025, at 3 p.m. A viewing will be held on Thursday, November 20, 2025, from 6 to 8 p.m. at Mueller's Funeral Home, 1401 S. Union Street, Kennewick, Washington.
